Interesting video, thanks Cole. A few thoughts / questions - I'm using 5As, quite happy with them, but I've never actually used another type of stick before. You mention a thicker stick can help open up your hand more. Is there any benefit to practicing rudiments with a thicker stick to get used to a more relaxed grip? Also, what are your thoughts on non-slip sticks? I've noticed quite a bit of issues with slippage as I continue practicing at higher speeds, but not sure what the consensus is around them. -Hitashi

As far as thicker sticks go, some folks use thicker sticks on pads to work on muscle building then play with their regular sticks. I'm more in the camp that you should practice with what you'll play with and this also goes for using a thicker/thinner stick for opening up your grip. If you want to use larger sticks to naturally open up your grip, I would practice and play with the same pair of sticks. That said, a lot comes down to hand size and I definitely don't want it to seem like a thicker stick = better because it'll open up your grip. Plenty of folks use 7As and have great loose and open hand technique. For non-slip sticks, I think there is no consensus because everyone is different! I used to use them when I was younger and they eventually started to wear down my skin, but tons of amateur and pro players alike use dipped/grip sticks. If your sticks are slipping often enough for it to be noticeable or a significant issue, absolutely try a pair of sticks with grip and see how they work for you. Hope that helps!

@@ColeParamore Sounds very reasonable. I might go wander around the stick section next time I'm in and see what I like. Appreciate your insights!
