Nice clear video and very informative. Thank you. I would like to add one more piece of advice to avoid tearout. Move the saw through the wood SLOWLY (or on a table saw, the wood through the saw). Not so slowly that the wood just sits there and burns of course but as soon as you approach the saw's cutting capability, the tearout increases and the cut gets coarser.

An alternative to Tip #4: you can score the top of the piece by lowering the handle slightly onto the wood and drawing the blade towards you. Then lower and push the blade through the cut as normal.

Using a compound miter saw, I set the stop block with a tape to a fix length to the teeth of the blade, check it more than once but when I cut the wood it's a little less than the actual measurement. Do you know why that is? Thanks.

Great tips! Thank you for the video. TWO MORE TIPS: 1) Allow your saw to spin up to full speed for a couple seconds before dropping the blade into the cut. 2) Don't force the spinning blade through the workpiece. Cut only as fast as the workpiece allows the blade to stay at full speed. Some wood species will allow a faster cut while others require a much lighter hand and slower cut.

To avoid tearout run the blade with a cut path out-over the top of the wood and then finish the cut by running the blade back in through the full thickness of the material. To check this, look to see if the angle of the blade tooth is cutting into the wood or out of the wood. Try to make as many cuts as you can with the tooth angle cutting into the wood.

How do you like your Craftsman slider? I wouldn't usually consider a Craftsman but it's one of very few with the rails mounted _forward_ ... which is great. I've read this saw has too much run out on longer cuts. Does it hold the carriage securely at the end of the rails? Does it cut square? Cabinet grade square? Thanks much!

I also watched another video when cutting plywood with your sliding saw to score the top lightly by just cutting the top layer by pulling the saw towards you as it cuts, then make your full cut as normal.

possibly tip #5-With a sliding miter saw how about scoring the top slightly about 1/8 inch or so befor the make the whole cut!? What do you think? Great tips by the way! Thanks!
@johnhare7279

Tip #5. Pull the blade across the top of your piece so the blade is cutting down on the top then push with the blade all the way down so the blade is cutting up on the bottom. Going slow and giving the blade a chance to cut helps too. It's not a meat slicer, unless you're careless.

can a miter saw replace table saw, and can I put smaller blade to increase vertical cutting depth?
@erikkayV
8 жыл бұрын
+Antonio Cepaj A miter saw can not make long rip cuts so it could never replace a table saw. Using a smaller blade would decrease the vertical cut depth by decreasing the distance between the teeth and the arbor.

@dannersmyers
8 жыл бұрын
6:15 I wouldn't recommend this it's very time-consuming. Simply get the blade spinning and cut a small amount into the surface. That scores the line for you and you can can continue with the rest of your cut. I can't imagine scoring every cut with a square and knife first.
@daviddavis5689
5 жыл бұрын
@tyvek05 That depends on your miter setup as many have stops for repeat cuts and only set it once.
@biz4twobiz463
5 жыл бұрын
Agree. It's a two (2) cut approach. The first cut at 1/4 or 1/2 the thickness of the wood pulling towards, then cutting the remaining pushing away. It just takes practice with the control of the miter saw.
