Start project, then let it rest. I think about it for a long time. Then when i get on it, i carry through until i hit another wall. Creativity takes a lot of thought. You wouldnt think that heavy sheet metal will warp, but it does, welds pull when they cool. HAVIN FUN! See you FRIDAY!!

"I like to just jump in the middle and do the 6 inch thing again". Yes it was taken out of context, though i'm trying to find ways to keep myself amused much as is the case with anyone lately, and one should not overlook that sometimes comedy just brings itself to the table rather easily, as it happens. Cheers chief, it's a weekday!

Looks like a lot of hard work. I’ll go ahead and be the safety guy for a minute. Should emphasize keeping guards on grinders when all possible. Instead of using a 4.5” angle grinder to knock down weld bead, a 3” cutoff with hard disk does the same thing and is safer. And no need to argon with that wire feed machine. Straight co2 or a 75/25 co2 argon mix is sufficient.

The information here is so helpful. Thanks Chad. A question: is it possible to do the same job with 110v and flux core? Is it true that flux core is hotter than mig with gas? Thanks! 👍🇨🇦

Why? Is it to fill the gap & smooth it out to make it look seamless?
@jrmatter74

Thanks Chad for all the pointers! I have a question though? How do you get the weld to cross the gap? do you form a puddle and drag it across? I always end of burning a hole with a gap like that, or my wire falls into the gap?

Welding is a great canadian tradition. It's why as a canadian i took welding as my major in high school, and to help stay warm. No only that, it was the only class i had that let me drive a go kart right up into the classroom on a daily basis, back when it wasnt dangerous to drive go karts to school, and ended up making a fiero looking car body for the same reason for it to work on my welding. It's a good thing to know that coat hangers can help get a welder back online, and the physics as to why welding a line compared to a spot causes the atoms in the metals to react accordingly that could cause a warping effect. It's a custom car making show, are you suggesting making them out of hemp or something like vacuum bagging or high speed thermal forming of sheets of PLA made specifically from canadian corn after the coathangers are all gone?
