#Tips For Transcription Accuracy
Hello friends,
As we know, the Transcription is a life-line for anyone learning Stenography at any speed whatsoever.
In my earlier videos, I have included the following about Transcription:-
Based on my knowledge and experience in the field, in this video, I am going to share in detail my views about the steps we need to take while doing the Transcription in the right way or say a good transcription. I have tried my best to document this important need of stenography.
1. Treat it as a test and not a formality
Every transcription that we do daily shows us the status (mirror) about the progress of our stenography.
It needs to be treated as a Test and needs to be taken seriously.
Hence, we should write the dictation on a proper shorthand note-book with a sharp pencil or a pen, whatever we usually use.
2. Read the dictation before you start typing.
Make it a point that every dictation needs to be read before you start typing.
The reason is when we read it before typing, we understand the context and since the words are fresh in our memory, we are able to apply our mind on difficult and substituted words.
Moreover, when we transcribe and type, it becomes smooth/fast and we don’t have to go back again and again.
I am of the view that if possible, let us take more time in reading, in case we are not able to finish within the allotted time. And that can be possible if we have a good typing speed and are sure of completing it well before the allotted time.
3. Try to understand the meaning
The Transcription should preferably be typed in double space and a print taken on a paper.
Make a habit of understanding the meaning of the sentence/matter before you type.
This will facilitate in prompt typing and also will have very less chances of missing the line/s, which happens with a few people.
Also be careful about the punctuation
4. Mark the mistakes honestly
It is advisable to check and mark each mistake honestly without any concession, preferably with a red pen so that the same is clearly visible.
The checking and identification of the mistakes can preferably be done as per the standard/ method laid down by SSC (Staff Selection Commission), which is widely prevalent. A sample of table showing the types of mistakes to be identified is being shown in the next slide.
5. Take the mistakes in the right spirit
We learn a lot from the daily Transcription
It helps in continuous improvement in our output.
Let’s not get discouraged and not leave the transcription of a passage which is tough, as the tough passage gives us an opportunity to learn more new words.
6. Adequate practice of words and phrases
It is suggested to keep a physical record of all the transcriptions for future reference and monitor the progress.
After we understand each and every mistake, we need to do adequate practice of new words and phrases in the transcription.
It is also suggested to re-write the same passage of transcription minimum 3-4 times or till we are sure of writing it perfectly.
General (but important)
The more we realise the importance of the Transcription and do it religiously, the more we can gain out of it.
It is better not to do a transcription on any particular day than doing it incomplete or with half-hearted efforts, so as not to develop a bad habit.
In case we develop a habit of doing the daily Transcription in the proper way, we would not feel any difference or nervousness when we appear in any skill exam because it will be a routine affair for us.
That’s all I wanted to share today.
THANKS
