Motu 828ES with 2 Motu A16 connected via AVB. I also use an Audient ID4 for traveling and a Universal Audio Apollo Solo for tracking with different flavors by using Unison plugins.

Most audio interfaces now offers direct monitoring, which is useful if you track in a session with already a bunch of plugins.

For Logic Users (But My Apply Broadly) Latency can be affected in Logic even if you have disabled plug-ins in your chain. Logic also has a setting for Low Latency Recording you can find in your menu. This change will automatically completely disable and bypass all latency creating plugins in your chain, but only while recording. It really works well.

fantastic, thank you! Where is that setting located? Couldn't find it in mine

I agree, I only use external / direct monitor mix methods.

spend it on a fast processor with many cores. for me, the i9 with 12 cores hit the sweet spot. then (if you do your gain staging carfully) you can use "constrain delay compensation"** if you have to overdub it record layer on the session which will bypass all high latency plugins. if your sound falls apart, print or freeze some group stems. ** a feature on the Cubase mixer page

Personally I found the best way to deal with low latency when tracking/recording vocals or live instruments is as follows. I Play the backing track in the DAW while in low latency mode. So the artist can hear themselves give them a monitor mix that consists of the backing track and their own vocals mixed using the interface mix console (

Personally MOTU M2 or M4. Their latency is great and also very importantly they have a powerful enough preamp that drives dynamics mics quite comfortably. Plus the headphone amp in it is fantastic.

behringer umc404hd I paid the half price of now 4 years ago and it's damn good. Anyway buddies, don't record with a lot of plugins or if you need to correct something, started mixing, bounce a mix in another session plugins free and then import the new track in the primary session. With vocals never much trouble. I don't need to hear me in the headphones so I mute my channel and listen my voice in the room and in the facial cavities while recording😃

Whats the lowest latency audio interface? I use my interface for amp sim and live drum triggers so roundtrip is really critical. I use a Focusrite 3rd gen 18i20, but I'm sure there's a lot quicker ones...any recommendations?

Track at higher khz.

Not to nitpick but the sample rate is not the contributing factor to latency. Higher sample rates take more CPU cycles (thus time) to process and in many cases DAW “low latency” settings down sample playback while recording at full rate. The sum of the time it takes for the signal to be processed (round trip) by all elements in the signal path is what sets latency.

@@dm1943 I know. But if the CPU can take it, latency is reduced if the latency offset is samples. I use my Fireface 802 USB into Logic @ 64 samples, 44.100 khz, with 4.9 secs roundtrip latency. Increase the khz, and that number drops. I don't bother because 4.9 secs RT is fine for my needs while tracking. I could probably go to 128 samples and be fine. At 256, I'd start to feel/notice it.
