I live in Ontario(Canada),i started 1 year ago commuting by bike to work.I bought a montain bike and change to road tires when there is no snow/ice on road.I prefer biking to car so much!Healthy, save lot of money and i'm more energic(?) at work.between that i lost 40 pounds and feel like i'm a 20 years old man(i'm 36...)

Great video, I've been considering going "car light", and just putting my 4x4 pickup into storage until our wonderful Iowa winters kick in. Granted on the nicer winter days I could see riding, but having a 4x4 has it's advantages when you go to work at 4 AM in a blinding snowstorm. I just upgraded to panniers to carry extra clothes, groceries, etc. The trunk bag I have been using just doesn't hold enough layers for the cooler days. Our company has a wellness program, and I've sort of led the way in inspiring others to "empty the parking lot" of gas guzzling vehicles so that our customers can have the best parking spots. I also challenge my coworkers to taking the long way home by bike for extra exercise. Great video, GO HAWKS:-)!!!!

StormLaker1975 Good Job!! I have been trying to get my co-workers/friends to join me but they are "too cool to bike." So it's just me huffing and puffing at the moment.

I biked to work for years. It was awesome because I could go right into the garage but had to do a steep hill along the way. When moving closer on level ground I just walked and ran. I used the shower at work and saved a ton of money.

i am a new bike commuter (about four months now) and i am in love with how fun it is to get to work every morning. it rocks to start the day with exercise and it helps me digest my work day and by the time i'm home, i'm feeling like i've got energy for the evening.

For bicycle commuting, check into "E-bikes". Get to work and not be sweaty.

...-trail tires are OK on Winter, but you have to ride carefull and with snow try shifting only low gears for best bike control -make use of your old montain bike too (maybe will be rust sometime because salt...) -Some regular clothes are good for Winter but best ones are in a GOOD bike store and they have advices for you too, just ask them.-I cahnge my trail tires to road tires in Spring/Summer...they give you a better ride.-i have my road bike(a good one) in good weather too...

Even if I leave a cheap bike outside (and I don't own a cheap one!!) and it got stolen (which I plan not to have happen) I would be petrified and getting a good U shaped lock is a wise investment-whether you live in Greenview California or Greenview Illinois!!

I live in Ontario too and am considering biking to work year round. Any recommendations or tips you can offer? I'm in the KW area.

Replacing automobile for a bicycle is too extreme and unrealistic. You still need a car, particularly in US. But you can think on how many round trips do you need to recover the cost of your bicycle and accessories. In my case, I decided to use a Trek 4400 bicycle my son did not use anymore, bought some nice accesories for $200 and I will recover them within 75 roundtrips. I am using it 3 days per week and that's enough for me.

i bought a bianchi orelo from craiglist for 100 bucks.....so my advice is to be patient, research about bike ,such as how to choose and check used bike, then get on craiglist and buy a good used one for cheap instead of going to walmart....not that i have anything against walmart or big boxes store bikes but the majority of their reviews are bad , negative......

If you spend $80 bucks on a new bike no matter what you do you are going to end up spending way more on maintenance. If you can find a good used bike for that then no problem. Plus you won't ride a bike that's aweful anways and won't get the benefits of commuting.

Tip 1. Don't buy a helmet, as they may increase you chances of being involved in a collision with a vehicle.
