FYI-the blue lines you see in the water now(not everywhere tho) is the same as street view but from a boat,not a car.Something new the past year or so.>>Definitely not the area Mark is showing,only regular street view.

Great info! You have touched on a lot of things I’m trying to learn before I head down! I’ve been doing vacations to Ft Lauderdale by boat for 20 years. Just bought a cabin cruiser and plan on splashing in Ft Lauderdale and heading south to explore the Keys within the next year. Do you have any marinas you would recommend to over night at around Key Largo and Marathon? It is surprisingly hard to find that type of info from internet search. If you did a video of the same area only by boat where people could see what the landmarks and bridges look like that would be so helpful! Kind of like how you guys did the bike tour. That by boat of anywhere in the keys would a great watch and study material prior to coming down. Thanks for sharing I’ve really enjoyed watching the videos.

Thanks for watching! You might look into Faro Blanco Marina here in Marathon. It is a very nice spot, and has a restaurant right on the water off the docks...we like that marina!

In Key Colony Beach,do NOT expect mail delivery(USPS) to your home.I had my heart set(if I ever win a JP) on a house there till I found out it ain't going to happen.Go to street view and you will NOT see a mailbox(Key Colony Beach) so be wise.

Very good information, also as you well know you can be 5 miles out on the gulf side and run aground. Also there arent all that many public boat ramps in the Marathon area, and most of them are on the gulf side. As for docks, if you are starting from scratch on a vacant lot with no dock or seawall, be prepared for several years of processing for the permit, and considerable cost for engineering etc. before you can even start construction. If you live in the Duck Key area, you might want to think twice on a T top on your center console boat. Because you will be limited to the bridges you will drive under if you have one.

Problem is those shallows that we see so clearly from above, are very hard to spot when you are on the water, especially if you have the sun in front of you... and some of those canals are very narrow. It would scare the sh*t out of me taking a tens or hundreds thousand boat down there, running aground is far to easy
@GablesOnTheGo

It can be challenging, especially to unexperienced boaters and even the experienced still make mistakes...but once you've been here awhile you learn the water and it's no big deal.

Blue roofs?? I'm guessing the blue tarps covering the roof after a hurricane....yep...it's a real thing down here!

I know for a fact the neighborhood on Big Pine is beautiful but if you have a boat with anything over 10' clearance the bridge is low. Great neighborhood for smaller boats, seeing Key Deer in your yard, etc. Also some of the canals are narrow in places because of the over growth of the mangroves.

Hi, Mark 👍🏻👍🏻 WOW I did not know google maps had all those tools for measuring distance and I’ve only just used it for directions from my location to my destination lol. Thanks for sharing this very informative video and great information about the area’s surrounding all the canals in the Keys. I watched one of your other videos 👍🏻 where y’all were out on the sand bar and you talked about boaters tearing up the sea grass in the shallows also have you and Laurie ever been snorkeling out at the reefs. Thanks for sharing, enjoy and and have a Great week !!! Danny from Georgia

Another great video. Thanks for the info on the canal types. One question for you, can you get your boat under the bridge between Big Pine and Little Torch Key?
@GablesOnTheGo
4 жыл бұрын
It depends on the boat. The bridge clearances in Big Pine Channel according to the chart it is 89 feet horizontal and 15 feet vertical on the little torch side and 89 feet horizontal and 9 feet vertical on the big pine side of the channel. So large sport fishers with towers will most likely not make it, but center consoles with T-tops should be fine. Check your heights though to verify!
