Great video, doctor. I was a bit surprised when you said you try to avoid extra-oral suturing. I'm a dental surgeon from Nigeria and it's common practice here for us to manage patients with maxillofacial lacerations. In fact, we are usually the first port of call to patients like that.

Very interesting! I guess it just falls outside our normal scope of practice so I have never felt comfortable doing so. All the best and thanks for watching!

Thank you doctor When to use absorbable/non absorbable sutures?

When placing implants, do not use absorable sutures because it will lead to more adherence of toothplaque and thus bacteria increasing the risk for peri-implantitis.

Different sutures are for different applications. Most surgeons will use a plain 3.0 gut for routine suturing. Some prefer 3.0 silk or a chromic 3.0 depending on the application. If you have delicate tissue or are suturing tissue tears or apico flaps, you might wish to consider a 5.0 gut suture. That's just my two cents. I've got plenty on this in the course that discusses the various types of sutures and their applications. All the best my friend!
