The reason could be of what you are saying is the water droplet is not a perfect Circle(sphere rather) so radius is not equal at both sides
@black_crest
3 жыл бұрын
No actually he meant to say that the incident ray itself does not fall beyond the critical angle. If it did, then there would not have been any refraction. And since r is equal, the base angles of that triangle are also equal so the second refracted ray does not go beyond the critical angle by the laws of geometry and hence no TIR happens.
@priyanshukumarsingh8638

@@black_crest sir, but many other books say that a rain drop is act alike Prism....so, by it is not of circular shape and two sides aren't equal.....so, it can be said n that TIR happens !! ???
@black_crest
2 жыл бұрын
@@priyanshukumarsingh8638 Actually the rain drops are suspended in the air and are not under the force of gravity when a rainbow is formed. So it is assumed that the rain drops are spherical in shape Even if they were in shape of a prism, there is no saying that it is a PERFECT prism

Sir Inside the droplet (where reflection of light rays occur on boundary of circle) the angle of refraction (which you said that it is less than critical angle) is the part of the angle of reflection, then how we can say that total angle will aslo be less than critical angle?. But your explanation was Easy.
@pankajkumarjha4022

For the angle of incidence r at the boundary of droplets angle of refraction will be i as the light has entered with angle of incidence i. So no TIR takes place.

It is because there is always reflection involved with refraction. For example, if a light is incident, more than 90% is refracted, but some rats get reflected as well.

As a learning student, I would like to point another important observation that most of the teachers don't spend much time researching on the topics and don't generally bother to verify the authenticity of their understanding about a particular topic. In class 10th NCERT no word as TOTAL INTERNAL REFLECTION is used but many teachers falsely misinterpret things and link the phenomenon of rainbow formation to it.
