Great vid. Really interesting. Camera is a little bit like watching 'TheBlair Witch Project', but otherwise brilliant. Cheers.

What do you do on the ends when the tires are staggered? Cut a tire in half?

Can i use different tire sizes?

Ronnie A I used 175-235, 45-75, 13-18; tires. Each row, regardless of size, is level once the tires are packed.

Short answer. DON'T. Talk to your local tire dealer about the mos common tire sizes and stick to your choice. Sure it will slow down your accumulation of tires BUT an uneven wall is a nightmare... like working with uneven stone. I built a one room house with random tires and I would never do it again. Personally I like mag wheels with thin rims. Much easier to pack!.

I understand the string line, but all the rest of the pins and bolting them together? Totally unnecessary. There is no way a tire full of direct is going to move horizontally.

WireTamer you're only thinking when the tires are full. When you're pounding the tires to pack them full of dirt with a 12lb sledge they move, a lot.

This vid is awesome... just curious, is something holding the tire to the earth, or is it just placed on sand? I always wondered that.. thankq

+Rockin Pip Tyres have been used all over the world for walls and even houses. Not ugly when planted out with low lying creepers or other plantings. Chemical leeching is minimal, nothing different to them being in landfill enmass.

+Rockin Pip You haven't seen the finished result. If it's well built and planted out you probably wouldn't be able to see any tyres. The important thing is that this method allows the problem to be sorted at very low cost. Not everyone wants to buy a load of expensive building materials.

tires are actually very stable ...they are used as artificial reefs and are now being repurposed more and more ... on basketball courts and in roads. The world discards 300 million tires a year so any sensible use for them is a good solution. How much harm do cement blocks do to the environment both in the production of and as they break down ....the tire's life must be well over 100 years.
