I got into RPGs to try and meet people when I got sober. Then I realized it's incredibly hard to play in real life. I also limit screen time, so I started solo roleplaying. In my itch to engage with real people, I know run online games...... This is irony

As a publisher of RPGs for all ages, the clarity and flow of text and layout is vital. QuestRPG set the benchmark for me, but Into the Odd and Mausritter are also firm favourites.

Watching this as I make my third traveller character today. So much fun. Edit: this to me is my traveller time, the game seems too much for me to actually play, I just enjoy the character creation.
@LoneHorizons

I’ve heard a lot of people do that with Traveller, or they just design ships. Character creation and ship design are pretty much games in themselves.

@LoneHorizons I think I've made 30 characters since I got the book. Find it really enjoyable making a couple and linking them together. Then play something else 🤣

Video 51 of me liking and then commenting on every new upload to tell the viewers that the Man Alone Podcast is absolutely some of that sweet, unhinged audio/vocal-honey. Psssst. Anybody else get weirded out when M.A. Lone makes midday posts? I’m all about those degenerate spooky-hours posts. Where is my Coalition of Creatures of the Night?

Anyone ever tried numenera solo? I've very little experience playing ttrpgs at all, be it in a group or solo. I have played the numenera video game though and found the world very interesting. So that's driving my interest, is it a game that can readily be played solo?
@bleaquehaus

It looks like the underlying Cypher system can and has been soloed. Numenara itself is a kind of kitchen sink, so you might want to invest in a few decks and/or books of tables for it.

Into the Odd games are just a leeedle bit too lightweight for me. I love me some NuSR but I need some meat on dem bones. White Box FMAG and LotFP scratches those itches for me.

You know, it isn't every day that we get a Faulkner reference on the youtube. FWiW, I am impressed. I am embarrassingly ignorant of a massive chunk of American literature. I went from Melville to Hemingway to Kerouac. I'll never forget my friend citing Cliff's notes in a high school paper. The teacher bemusedly roasted him, but also applauded his honesty. I am so happy to see Into the Odd getting some love. That game is amazing. As is Electric Bastionland. There is a fantastic hack of EB called ANNA X-66. It is so rad. I don't know what it is about those games, but they get me in a way that medieval lore doesn't.

The interaction with the ai and the last question you posed to it is fascinating. Lol it states it doesn't have personal feelings or beliefs. So it doesn't posess a morality like a human would... But morality is essentially guide lines to interactions. So it does possess them it's just imposed on it by whoever programmed its "morality"... kinda like people and society. Essentially it's a mirror for humanity (if it was truly programmed by the totality of humanity and not a select sliver) and humanity is a mirror for humans 😂

This sounds like a great topic as I’ve been in the buying phase for a while and not so much the playing phase. (I had Into the Odd but I got carried away converting from paper to PDF and back again.) Cairn is based on it and is simple. I backed Cairn 2e (not aware that meant waiting until 2025… see also your recent video about Kickstarter lol). I’m on their discord as well but haven’t been leaning towards playing it given that I’m currently in Shadowdark and Starforged games and was leaning towards some old D&D type system (BX, AD&D 2e, BECMI, OSE, etc.) Going to listen/watch this for inspiration on actually getting past the hurdles of starting to play solo.

44:30 is a key point and new idea to me! Reading the adventure to get a feel for how they wanted it to feel to play, and get stuff into your subconscious, not to play them solo specifically. Aside: I just bought The Halls of Arden Vul… I wonder if I could read it lol
