We only had one rainy day, which gave us plenty of opportunity to do more exploring. We drove to Achensee in glorious sunshine, marveling at Tirol's largest lake. With its stunning turquoise waters spanning 6.8 square kilometers and nestled between the Karwendel and Rofan mountains, Achensee truly lives up to its nickname as the "Fjord of the Alps" (thanks Google).
The next day, we visited Austria's smallest city, Rattenberg. This medieval gem, known for its well-preserved historic centre, is famous for its long-standing tradition of glassmaking. From there, we continued to Innsbruck, the capital of Tirol. Renowned for hosting the Winter Olympics twice, Innsbruck's definitely worth a visit to see city landmarks like the Golden Roof, and its stunning alpine backdrop.
