I just got the silver dial and I absolutely love it! My only gripe is the clasp! The clasp is as cheap as a Walmart watch. My other Tissot watches have the butterfly clasps which I'm a big fan of! I will definitely look for a new strap with such clasp. Wish I could share a pic because I haven't seen any reviews of the silver dial and I think it's the best looking color out of the black and the blue.

Love Tissot, wish they’d release a better dive watch with a bit more tool watch atheistics. The hands are much too chunky, thin those out, polished or brushed case without those indentations, and just give up a durable sailcloth strap, sapphire coated mineral crystal, and give us the same Quartz F06.115 movement found in Tissot Couturier, and PRX. Sell for under $400 to compete with the Citizen Promaster line while also enticing customers to a quality/beater dive watch when not wearing a Squale, Tudor, or Formex, ect.

I am fine with the "dress diver", and the sunburst dial is great. Odd lug widths are always bad, but they are awful for people with large wrists. The clasp was what killed it off for me, and knowing I couldn't get a decent straight end bracelet that would fit.

If you forget about the Jomashop price and take the MSRP which is close to 1000,-€ at your local AD it makes the things even worser.... If you want a bit a blingy dressdiver, I would recommend the Longines Conquest Automatic which has no diver bezel but the diver case and water resistance of the HydroConquest and plays in the region of the Tissot MSRP... For me the Longines is the perfect go anywhere do anything watch, which can be worn with a suit as well as with an old pair of jeans and a ragged T-shirt...

I bought this stupid thing after Jody's review and ended up liking it quite a bit. Sure, the bracelet has a stamped clasp and pinned links, but it's comfortable, and the watch itself is actually quite nice looking on the wrist. And while the lume isn't Seiko-level, it's pretty decent when compared to a number of other similarly priced competitors. Dress-diver is correct. I don't see this watch as being terribly useful to anyone seriously diving, but I am pretty sure whoever owns it could jump into any pool or other body of water at a company retreat and be perfectly fine. It's a watch that is ultimately better than the sum of its parts, super comfortable on the wrist, and definitely worth considering at 25% off its MSRP with its 2 year warranty (the usual sale I see from ADs).

I have this SeaStar in both blue and black. Jody, I have to respectfully disagree with your somewhat negative review. Regarding the play in the 120 click bezel, I think JomaShop sent you something they should not have. Both of mine have incredibly clean and tight bezel rotation. In fact it is the bezel action to which I hold all other watches to. I would love to have seen a solid tri-link deployment claps or something more creative than the stamped existing clasp. That have been said, it is extremely durable, very comfortable, and very easily operated without any accidental pop opens. I think the big picture needs to been appreciated here. Consider how much watch is being offered here. While adding a more creative clasp would have been fantastic, it would have pushed this watch into another price bracket. For $500 as you mentioned (in Canada list is $975) this watch gets you the legendary 80 hour Powermatic! This watch is by far the most accurate in my collection. Out performing more costly watches. Don’t forget the front and back sapphire. Most certainly it is on the dressy side, yet it is comfortable in the boardroom or at a BBQ. This is my daily wear. Black mostly the office, blue days off. Completely agree the lume could last longer, at least the colour is a nice blue instead of cheap green. Is it perfect, no but in my humble opinion it is most certainly the best bang for your buck in that style and price range.

I just received a black one as a gift for my birthday and yes the bezel does have bounce back when you move it. Overall the watch is nice, but the bounce back makes it feel a little cheap. This kind of stuff really bothers me and since it was a gift I dont think I can do anything about it.

I have the black one and enjoy it quite a bit, Got it 18 months ago. I'll agree that the bezel has a minimal give back, but it's not a problem (I think it's less than 1/180th of a circle, 2°, or 1/3rd of a minute). The bracelet isn't my favorite, but I replaced it with a black and a black/gray 20mm NATO strap and quite enjoy it. Sure, I'd like it if the Lines lasted longer as well, but they are more than enough for my usage. The reason I got this watch, contrary to what I'm hearing on this video, this was the only reputable automatic Swiss dive watch with 300M water resistance with an open case back and a unidirectional bezel I could find in this price range. You could go Certina for more or Oris for 2-3 times the price, but those aren't in this price range. Mine runs about 6 seconds slow per day if I wear it 24/7, often I will sleep with it because it's very comfortable with the NATO and I like to see the Lumes. I don't baby the watch and wear it while doing work around the house, to the beach, etc. One day while cleaning the watch I managed to knock the glow in the dark pearl on the bezel off and sent it back to Tissot under warranty and they replaced the bezel with no problem. In summary, I'm very happy with my Tissot Seastar, but acknowledge that the bracelet could be better, the bezel isn't perfect and my preference would be for slightly brighter lumes. If you want a Swiss automatic dive watch with unidirectional bezel and transparent case back, I don't see how you can beat this in the price range.

Better than a Loreo for sure. c’mon what better option is out there on that price category ISO CERTIFIED?! It is a Swiss Tissot not a Japanese! You being too harsh. Jody, I think you are one of the most knowledgeable watch reviewers on KZitem and I certainly respect your comments and opinion regarding the Seastar 1000. Having said that, I own the same watch except with the black dial. I am very satisfied and impressed with the Seastar. If I’m not mistaken, with the exception of your comments regarding the clasp, (which I do agree with you on) and the Lume, I think the majority of your other comments are subjective and a matter of personal preference. I researched quite some time before deciding on this Tissot Seastar. I think that the Seastar delivers on the specs it describes on ‘paper’, which are quite impressive. I find the watch to be accurate to within 4-6 seconds fast/per day. I have no issue with the bezel or any alignments. As you point out, its a rather thin watch, given its complications. With 300 Meters water resistance, 80 hour power reserve, solid crown, etc. and having purchased mine during a great Jomashop sale at just over $400. I am quite pleased with my purchase. I’m sharing my observations as I believe you asked viewers to do so. Thanks...Ed

Ed F I concur. I’m planning on saving up for one of these in the near future, and except for the clasp, which I will replace, the rest of the black dial variant seems to be the best dress diver this side of a Submariner. I’ve seen several reviews of this watch (mostly of the black or silver dial variants), and this is the only overtly negative review I’ve seen, with most of the points seeming to relate to subjective preferences for Seiko’s sportier aesthetic. While good lume is obviously preferred, I’m not a diver, so decent lume is enough for me, and an aftermarket clasp is something I’m simply planning on factoring into the final cost of the watch.

Geoffrey Pearce ...Hi Geoffrey, as you might suspect, from my perspective, you won’t be the least bit disappointed if you purchase the Seastar 1000. I too, read every review I could find on this watch, and all were quite positive. To be honest, I spent several days inspecting the watch for defects/flaws, etc. and other than what has been previously discussed (primarily subjective preferences), and I couldn’t find any. Barton Watch Straps has a fairly decent supply of 21 mm straps, including a nice black silicone strap which replaced the stainless steel bracelet on my Seastar 1000. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the watch, as I was afraid I was the only person who thought the Seastar punched above its price point. I really respect Jody, yet I wonder if the blue color-way of the watch he reviewed influenced his opinion? It’s one of the few blue dials which I really can’t stand.

Jody, i took the time to read the other comments regarding your review of the Seastar 1000. I must admit that it appears you only responded to a couple of comments which you described as being submitted by “Angry watch owners...”, which implies to me that you are right and others are wrong. I think, I for one submitted a very respectful comment offering my thoughts on the matter, merely because you requested that your subscribers do so. I guess I’ve learned a lesson and won’t offer my comments in the future. It appears that you take offense at differing opinions and I feel as if I’ve wasted my time, as a “non-expert”, Seastar 1000 watch owner, sharing my thoughts with your subscriber base. I feel as if the ‘expert’ implicitly let me know through your two responses to the multitude of comments that I made a mistake purchasing the Seastar 1000.

Owned a black dial with red bezel, on a rubber strap, beautiful watch. Kept great times, beyond COSC. Watch went down to a little over 100 feet, no problem. Sold the watch because it had ZER0 lume and the movement is NOT serviceable.

Tissot are a lovely brand right...........but with oceans of competition, and yet masses of similar designs.......doing something a bit different is a bit risky at that price .....maybe...?

Should have gone for the black or blue black on rubber strap Barton do a nice 21mm rubber strap in a variety of colours if the lame bracelet clasp is freaking you out Had mine for 18 months and like it as it doesn’t look like a Rolex sub like a lot of micro brands and larger brands tend to do. Makes a great beater but in black form at least is dressier than most divers especially on a dark strap

A nice watch spoilt by the bracelet, and the movement, a huge step down from the 2824-2 on which it’s based.

The blue dial with fading into black, as well as the black dial versions look better and can be had on the rubber strap for $448 on Joma. Less the cool $20 discount means they are $428, but there are many other offerings in the price range. The Certina Action Diver and the Mido Ocean Star Captain are slightly more, but are a couple other good options. I would love to see a comparison of those 3, as that may already be in the works. Nice job, as always...

Not buying any watch until Aussie dollars get better. Ooh I'm not a fan of that shade of blue.

I definitely agree the clasp is unacceptable for the price, and if I were to get one I’d immediately upgrade it (probably with a strapcode clasp). The bracelet itself is quite nice though, and it looks quite good on a NATO. I’ve tried on the black variant, and have seen the silver dial one, and definitely think they both look better than the blue variant (the bezel lets the blue one down). I’m actually planning on saving for the black version in the future. I’m willing to concede that it’s definitely dressier than a Seiko Diver, which isn’t great of you prefer Seikos, but some actually want a dressier watch, especially if it’s their only watch for all occasions (which is also why many like the Submariner). Also I’m not sure I agree with you regarding specs for the price. The lume and bezel might not match Seiko for $500, but for a desk diver that receives only occasional dive use (if at all), the use of ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal and 80h power reserve (with display caseback) are basically unbeatable. Seiko by comparison only offers aluminium inserts, Hardlex crystals and notoriously inaccurate 40h PR movements unless you spend more than $1000.

It's a strange thing - I've been trying to like Tissot's offerings since I started buying just one (more) watch, and I've never been able to do it. It's like they are trying too hard to beat the competition, and somehow miss the mark completely. Aesthetically, for me, there are just so many better options out there. That said, another great video, Jodie.

Too blue for my taste. Maybe the black/blue version could have worked better. But at least the date is better executed than in the black Tissot chronometer with the ugly cyclops. But regardless the "1853 heritage" and Swiss Made I would much prefer the Phoibos Eagle Ray.

I plan to visit Jomashop on Boxing Day with my Christmas bonus in hand. My suspicions are I won’t be looking for a Tissot this year.

Hi Jody could I ask you to do a review on the Mido Ocean Star. It's similar in Provo to the Sea Star but may be slightly more pleasing clasp wise. I'm enjoying your videos. Thank you.

Hi Jody, so glad you got Jomashop discount codes again. Thanks for the review of the watch. I love your honesty. It's not for me. Mainly to heavy for me. I like the hands and the dial. I think they should give you a properly milled clasp for a 500 dollar watch. I think there are better watches in the 500 dollar price range. I would rather have the 28,800 beats per hour to get the smoother second-hand sweep than a slowed down higher power reserve.

There is never a single Tissot that looks better than « Mehh ». It’s a brand that takes so little risk with their designs that they don’t deserve reviews. The most boring and most swiss of all brands. Swatch being a really daring brand they needed that under their umbrella i guess.

Augustin Fabre I agree. And they are the only watches I’ve seen that often look worse in real life than on video. I do love the design of the Visodate though but wish the dial was a bit better finished.
