Nearer my God to thee is absolutely beautiful but recent evidence shows that it was, in fact, a different song all together. The annoying thing is, I can’t remember the name of the documentary or title of the book that explains it all. It’s specifically about the Titanic musicians. If you can find it, please read it and remind me too as it was immensely wonderful and most of all, full of grace and dignity of and for these incredible gentlemen.

It actually was Nearer My God to Thee. However, it was a much less common arrangement that is predominantly played in methodist churches, which is very different from other, more common, arrangements.

Interested as to how they would know what the musicians said word for word to each other when none of them survived and everyone around them would have been screaming and panicking and running about not sitting around listening to the music let alone what Hartley said to the other men ,ofcourse survivors remember hearing the music playing from the life boats and the last song , but also how did he have time to wrap his violin up in clothes and put it in the case when the ship was tipping up and breaking apart and the water was coming at them fast , of course their legacy is real and what they did was heroic but still makes you question if the violin they have is just one that his family had at home they sold at auction
