That staircase replica thing was a disgrace ...seriously...everything was wrong in it..and I don't like the modern concept of the museum and placing things....they should've made exact replicas walls and ceilings...that's how you expect tourists.

It's safety laws that prevent an exact replica of those original stairs, you can bet the people that designed and built it didn't want that at all, I assure you they had two choices, what you see, or nothing at all. So they did the best they could to make it look as good as possible and still remain within the law.

The worst irony of this exhibit is the fact that the famous staircase is only open to dignitaries, weddings and other functions and the like. The ordinary man and woman arent allowed to see it. Basically, if you're willing to pay a lot of money then its all yours. I guess they really wanted to give that 1912 feeling of 1st and 3rd class people. The Titanic is an amazing subject & is heavily romanticized but we must have respect for the human beings who had their lives cut short. Perhaps the majority of society cares about Titanic b/c of the film but ppl most certainly did "give a hoot" about it before Cameron's film. I was one of those ppl. There were several films about Titanic before the 90's, tons of books & every hobby shop carried kits to build your own ship model of Titanic. I remember my parents getting me one for Christmas one year. I finished it but it came out very sloppy as I was a kid. Still, there's always been a size-able group of Titanic enthusiasts...

@TheJason1339
10 жыл бұрын
peter peterson Adam Tolley Titanic would be "RMS Titanic" only when contracted to carry England's mail, and "SS Titanic" otherwise. R.M.S stood for Royal Mail Ship: a vessel officially tasked with the transport of England's mail. Having the title "RMS" was seen as a mark of quality and a competitive advantage, because the mail had to be on time. In the 1860 CDSPCo contract there was a penalty clause of £1 1s 4d for every minute's delay. The White Star Line sisters RMS Olympic and RMS Titanic were Royal Mail Ships. S.S. stands for screw steamer or steam ship and is the internationally accepted standard for a steam driven vessel as was RMS Titanic. The Lifeboats would carry SS rather than RMS because there might have been a later cruise when Titanic was not under Royal Contract to carry the mail and they wouldn't want to need to go around changing the markings ;)
@peterpeterson6880
10 жыл бұрын
J.D. Progger As the Titanic only sailed once I can only assume that the ship was an RMS and not an SS. It's very interesting that an image on Wikipedia shows the Titanic's wooden lifeboats in New York Harbor after the disaster. Underneath the image, it states, This particular image has been doctored to add the words "R.M.S. Titanic". In fact the lifeboats bore the name "S.S. Titanic" on a plaque mounted at the other end of the boat. I cannot for the life of me, understand why the image needed to be doctored in the first place? As it has been, one wonders whether any deception took place and why, the lifeboats bore the name "S.S. Titanic" on a plaque mounted at the other end of the boat when in fact it was RMS. So I can only assume the lifeboats were RMS like the ship itself, but as you or I were not there, we will never know for certain ;o) P.S. Being an RMS permits a ship to carry the Crown's mail not England's mail as you point out!
@XboxBasherAvailable

peter peterson The lifeboats were S.S. Titanic, as the Olympics lifeboats were S.S. Olympic - R.M.S. does not permit a ship to carry the "crowns mail" it indicates it is under contract by Royal Mail, the British postal service to carry mail sent from Britain to America regardless of origin.
@peterpeterson6880
9 жыл бұрын
XboxBasherAvailable 1. R.M.S. does not permit a ship to carry the "crowns mail" it indicates it is under contract by Royal Mail, the British postal service to carry mail sent from Britain to America regardless of origin. If so, why do you think the mail service in Britain is called ROYAL MAIL and not for example, The British Postal Service? Moreover, 2. If your stance is correct, why was there a need to doctor a photograph giving the impression that lifeboats were named RMS and not SS or vice versa? So in other words, according to this news story, the lifeboats bore the name SS Titanic and the text under a doctored photograph on Wikipedia indicate that the lifeboats also bore the name SS Titanic, even though according to Wikipedia, it was an RMS. Obviously there appears misleading information being distributed regarding the actual title of the ship, so can you please edit the Wikipedia entry on the RMS Titanic and correct the information. Surprising why there is so much conflicting and ambiguous information regarding this matter! I would have thought it would be a straightforward case!

Mary Ann Wittkowske well I mean they couldn’t control the speed of the ship anyways because their was a fire that had been roaring in the furnaces since before the titanic ever left Ireland... you ever paid attention in the pics of the titanic that even when their was no smoke coming from three of the stacks there was always smoke coming from one of them... that’s because the firemen below deck had been fighting a fire in one of the boilers since before the titanic ever launched and all it did was get worse until it finally spread too two more

If you do your research 98% of the titanics firefighting crew and coal crew quit before the titanic actually started towards america

I`m so sad! I was over in Belfast when they still were working on the inside, so I sadly didn`t get to go. Oh well there is always next year. I will just have to ask my mother :). And now I totally in the future when I decided to get married, want to be married there!

Yes, Titanic does indeed make sense for everyone across the world, but only in Belfast is it all about wringing as much money out of people as possible. I had an American friend over when this "museum" opened, and thought it would be a treat to visit the "museum". Half way round, we were both bored stupid!!.. if i had been given half the money this took to build, i would have made sure everyone had a "Titanic experience"..and not simply built a very expensive disappointment .continued >>>

The carpet on the 'Grand Staircase' is hideous. What a pity they had to change the design and put in those health and safety handrails.
