WOW! Absolutely awesome! My grandfather was a young man born and raised and lived his whole life in Southampton. In 1912 he went down to the docks and was in the crowd waving the Titanic off. I visited him in 1971 and he took me down to the exact spot where he stood. "Everybody was cheering and waving and away she went" he said. Extremely sad to think of such a magnificent ship going down with such a huge loss of life.

The coal storage is seriously impressive. You don’t actually realize how much it takes to fuel and power these massive engines… and to think this is only on a small scale
@DATo_DATonian
2 жыл бұрын
When the Titanic left South Hampton it contained 6,000 tons of coal which equals 12,000,000 pounds. [Edit] Even more impressive is to consider than men were expected to move 12,000,000 pounds of coal to the boilers with shovels.
@Jimmy644boy
2 жыл бұрын
humm, 600ton a day, devided by 150 stockers, thats 4ton per day per stocker, I believe they each did 2 four hour watches per 24hours (actually slightly more or less, depending on the direction of the ship & crossing though time zones), compared to other linners, the stockers had it not to bad... the coal was right at the boiler... what I find 'More impressive', is that at the start of the next voyage, the coal had to be loaded on... by hand/wheelbarrow, what would be shoveled over the next week into the boilers, had to be carried up to the ship in a day.
@DATo_DATonian
2 жыл бұрын
@@Jimmy644boy Are you sure it was loaded by wheelbarrow and shoveled into the bins? I'm not saying you are wrong, I really don't know how they did it, but it would seem they could drop it through removable doors built flat on the deck and down chutes to the holding areas with cranes. As far as feeding the boilers goes - I have often wondered why they didn't have augers (big screw drives that would rotate) which would carry the coal from the silo areas to the boilers. I guess muscle power was cheaper.
@Jimmy644boy
2 жыл бұрын
@@DATo_DATonian no, I am not sure. I won’t clams to know, it’s simply my understanding or how I thought/think it was done. I believe the coal openings were in the hulls side the deck right above the water line. (maybe some ships the deck above that). Certainly not the top of the ship (top decks all reserved for passengers and messy coal would wanna be kept away). So coal was side entering. (and had panels that had to be re water-tight sealed after). The side of the liner not along Side of the wharf would have a barge come along, and use pulley systems attached to the liners side abit higher up to lift bag loads at a time.. done by hand, the ships cranes generally only work over the cargo hatches. Feeding the boilers is the easy bit, picking up a shovel of coal and taking less then 5 steps to the firebox… (talking about Titanic here (or any Olympic class liner)) I don’t know of any ships that used augers to move coal (many locomotives did), after the First World War, many liners were converted to oil anyway. an auger would be yet another engine to maintain and supply steam to
@DATo_DATonian

Thank you for sharing this amazing model with everyone and giving it the justice it deserves with this detailed clip. I've not seen anything quite like this and it's truly amazing. The time that must have gone into building this must be well into thousands of hours. What is quite remarkable is the reproduction of reciprocating engines down to their movement. The makers of this model spared no detail, from their scale reproduction of the Third Class cabins and living space, the First Class staterooms, furniture and Cafe Parisien to the Grand Staircase and First Class Dining Room. Even the D-Deck staircase assembly area with its piano is painstakingly reproduced. This is truly remarkable and something that I expect has to be seen in person to appreciate even more. Hello, this great model was built by the model maker Enric Calvo. First, the hull of the ship was made in Girona, a large piece of fiberglass, and later it was moved to Granada to be finished in the Parque de las Ciencias and using new 3D printing technologies. In total there were 15 months of work between 2015 and 2016. It is impressive to see it in person, both the Titanic with its level of detail, and the port of Southampton. You can see these press articles of the construction of model, with the translator you can see them in English. www.tallermaquetas.com/titanic www.tallermaquetas.com/video (here is a video of the build) www.granadadigital.es/la-maqueta-mas-grande-del-titanic-a-punto-de-finalizarse-en-granada/ www.lavanguardia.com/local/sevilla/20160224/302400036838/titanic-granada-parque-de-las-ciencias-maqueta.html

@@lornperkins4270 yeeeeeeeees it would be fun to watch and accurate I would say, if the cut aways were restored and the proper gash from the ice Berg placed we could see an accurate sinking.

Absolutely stunning ! Wonderful workmanship just like the work the men at the shipyard in Belfast achieved with the real Titanic. Sad too when you think of how it ended on its maiden voyage . It would be so fitting if this beautiful model was here in Belfast Northern Ireland where Titanic was born , it would be more fitting a place.
