I looked it up, it used to have shows on house flipping, custom cars, a baby story, a wedding story, and other human interest stories. They even had Walter Cronkite and Donald Sutherland reviewing classic literature. What not to wear 2003 was the first “shock show.” I think the goal is to give an education on sociology, but it’s just drama now. Maybe Jon & Kate Plus 8 unintentionally shifted things.

I used to volunteer for a syringe exchange program for my county, so I feel I must point out that NO, it is not safe to reuse needles. Even if you're cleaning them with rubbing alcohol (which isn't 100% effective for something with so many crevices), it's not just a germ thing. The needle gets dulled and damaged every time you use it, so it will cause more damage to your skin and possibly lead to skin infections or abscess. Those can also spread and lead to endocarditis, an inflammation of the heart, which can be very serious

I know Extreme Cheapskates exaggerates stuff for tv and my assumption is My Strange Addiction/similar shows also exaggerate. I know people do actually eat weird stuff, but it doesn't make sense to me that as an adult you would just let your child eat an entire car seat without doing anything. My dog ate some of the foam on our ottoman when she was teething, we noticed, and figured out how to stop it (basically just put a cardboard barrier around the bottom).
@valerielevasseur8674

Yeah, I have a hard time believing that just happened out of nowhere, which just further underlines the absence of L in TLC. What leads a small child to eat their car seat, their parent(s) or guardian(s) not to care, and somehow isn't a tale of significant horror?

I’m not proud of this, but I did remove my own tooth once. I didn’t do this out of choice though! This was during the peak of the pandemic, and getting a dentist appointment was next to impossible. I simply was in too much pain, so I couldn’t deal with waiting. I have since been to the dentist. I mentioned that I had to do this to him, and he commented on what a good job I did. The tooth cracked into bits, which made it easier and harder to remove, at the same time. He said shockingly that I actually got all of the bits out and it’s healed well. I was quite impressed with myself 🤣

What's the trick? Pretty much just use an alcohol rinse before.....then apply pressure.....then regular salt water rinse regularly after the first day? I was shocked my orthodontist removed 3 wisdom teeth in about 40 mins. The sounds in my brain were horrible but almost no pain with the numbing injections.
@HarryDunlopClark
8 ай бұрын
@@tjjones-xj7kq yeah, I did an alcohol rinse first. But the actual tooth was already cracked down the middle (it was a wisdom tooth), so that gave me some leverage. Then when I was removing it, it was breaking up more. Sounds grim, but it helped a lot. It was just getting all the bits out then. The dentist has actually since told me he is quite impressed that I got it all out. For numbing, I used oragel and also a CRAP load of clove oil. That clove oil numbs you up SO well. Just have to be careful where you get it. I got it all over my cheeks and lips and it was all numb 🤣 It does wear off somewhat quickly though so had to keep re applying it hence getting it EVERYWHERE. But, and it’s a big but. It tastes fucking AWFUL. So, so bad. I’m actually now at the point the wisdom tooth has come through cracked on the other side. I’ve been debating the last week if I should just do it myself again. I’m leaning towards that option 🤣 This tooth is a bit more cracked, so should be easier. I also wouldn’t be as nervous. We will see…

@@HarryDunlopClark TLDR:If you have decent insurance I'd strongly recommend you go to a dentist. You did well once but it can go wrong and you are at a horrible position to see what's going on and dig out a small piece of stuck root. Great job on doing it yourself! I had to have a root canal done on a tooth that was extremely painful. It of course started hurting on Friday (they're open only M-Thu with "emergency" appointments other times at a high cost) so I used clove oil from a kit on my cracked tooth. It DOES work GREAT! I was so happy how well it worked. I made it till Monday where they sneaked me in. However for me it said don't get any on your gums or anything but tooth. I know why my gums hurt not numb but painful. So idk but I was careful to avoid the skin. All that said a dentist/Ortho is nice for screwy roots that will break off under the gum surface and require them to go and cut the tissue to get the root fibers out. You don't really know till you see an X-ray. I lucked out since the doc was worried about one of mine. Luckily the root cane out fine. At least you didn't deal with a annoyed dental hygienist. The one I had I think was having a bad day. Doc was cool though. Oh and the $1K dollar bill hurt more than the removal!!!! Cost over $300 per tooth! Glad I was only born with 3. That was WITHOUT the drugs that make you high and goofie. I only had the face numbing injections like with a regular cavity filling. No fancy drug that makes me forget what's what. Fun times 3/10 wouldn't do it again😂

My mom said one time he did it with a fork while they were talking at the table; she didn’t even know that’s what he was doing she just thought he was getting something out of his tooth, another time he did it with whiskey and some pliers, and another time he did it with a Swiss army knife. He always said he’d be in so much pain from the tooth ache that removing it himself was a relief. I’m like really not surprised these people did that, and it does seem like they aren’t well off or anything and do need to have a strict budget to get by.

The compulsion to eat substances that are not meant for consumption is often attributed to Pica, an ED that typically forms in childhood as a in response to environmental stress like parental neglect, not having enough food, chaotic homelife etc. Pica can persist into adulthood after the intial triggers for doing so are no longer present where it becomes a self-soothing behavior. People with Pica usually fixate on one thing they prefer to consume, like dirt, soap, hair, etc with subtypes arising for each of these categories. Many people with Pica eat in secret, to avoid ridicule or intervention. While it is certainly abnormal, or "strange", Pica is now considered part of the obsessive-compulsive spectrum, and usually runs in tandem with other psychological disorders, im not sure if "addiction" is the right word and nearly ever episode of this show and others like it will feature someone with this disorder. If you ever meet someone with Pica please be kind and dont react as if they are bizarre or disgusting, and remember that for many it is a coping strategy

I just gotta tell you why I love reaction videos, but maybe you will think it's weird. I totally get why people think, "why would you want to watch someone else watch something?" but... there is something lovely about it. I like watching how people react to my favorite movies-- maybe they notice things I didn't, or they see things different, or maybe they love it just like me and it's fun to re-live my favorite moments as if it's the first time with this other person. We have to be aware that these are parasocial relationships, but there is something about it that feels less lonely than just rewatching your favorite movie for the millionth time. It's like sharing something with someone, even though it's technically one-sided... it can bring sooo much joy and interest and curiosity. It provides insight into other people's perspectives and experiences. It can give you new appreciation for something you've felt jaded about. It helps with feelings of loneliness in some way. For me, this is why I really love reaction videos. Specifically, people reacting to movies, TV shows, and music that I really like, and they are exposed for the first time. Those can be so interesting!

It's $1800 for a root canal without insurance to save the tooth. An extraction without insurance is like $300. With insurance it's like $1400 for a root canal and crown, $500 without the crown, and $80 to pull it. Unless she has medicaid then the extraction is free. If she has insurance she's literally only saving like $80 max by pulling it herself, and obviously risking a very costly infection, especially if it was still abscessed when he pulled it.
