Now, Jeff had a life-changing moment all his own, but only years after being stoned out of his mind during a match against a hero and icon to *many* wrestling fans. How great a match that could have been(to say nothing of how better his life would have been), had the Charismatic Enigma been clean and clear against the Icon Sting.

@@anegg1369 I think Jeff considered that night one of, if not *the,* worst nights in his career. And it was, I think, that night that made him really want to start changing. He, I'm sure, had more low moments, but I doubt ever again one that low. After that night, he came out in the ring, admitted how pathetic he was that night, apologized to everybody, and feeling he had no right to expect, asked the fans, and his colleagues, to give him one more chance. And I think he did very good after that night. The Broken Hardy Saga was truly phenomenal, IMO. Jeff did eventually find his own way, he worked out his own salvation. They could have played that longer... Hey, if it is to play some BS to gain time - because we know the moment Hardy is out and the moment Bischoff came to the ring that we are in the WTF right now. We don't know what kind of WTF, we don't know if Jeff Hardy is playing or if it is real. Anyway, there are 29 minutes to kill on that PPV. And one funny thing in comedy is to stick with a problem and make it way too big. You know, like that scene from Roxanne where Steve Martin makes 25 nose jokes. The problem: Jeff Hardy shouldn't be there. Well, what if we have 50 guys who shouldn't be there... You have Bischoff there talking with the ref and wrestlers, getting ready to say something on the mic, then you hit RVD's music and he comes out... Then you have Mr. Anderson, than Kurt Angle, than Jeff Jarrett... Basically you empty the fucking roster, have 50 wrestlers going to the ring one after the other... Than, have personal from behind that shouldn't even get to the ring get some intro (wait, that's Steve from accounting... WTF?), all cutting Bischoff from speaking on the mic - for absolutely no reasons. You have Bischoff going ape shit over that many people in the ring, and end up doing a promo about lack of order, and saying that the title would match would be no DQ, get knocked out saying just "no." Have Hulk Hogan came in, cut a promo, get punched in... And finish that in a brawl where someone calls the "cops." Hey, that would be better than what you have there.

Sting is a total pro who has always given his all to the wrestling business. You could really tell how legitimately angry he was at Jeff for having the incredible disrespect to come out stoned off his gourd like that. Just look at how stiffly he drops Hardy with the Scorpion Death Drop, and then when Jeff tries to kick out of the cover (why?) Sting obviously shoots and muscles him back down for the three count. Hardy's lucky he wasn't blackballed right out of the business after this.

Sting has been there with his own history of drug problems so he understands, but he's never been that bad off, thus his anger. Plus you gotta figure he, Hebner, and Bischoff understood how dangerous Hardy was at that point. Especially considering Jeff tried to kick out so he wanted to keep it going when he was in no condition. Had Bischoff not told him to punish Jeff a little then finish it quickly, who knows how seriously Jeff might have hurt all three men in the ring.

As someone who was a Jeff Hardy fan when I was younger, this was sad. Addiction is never something that is easy to deal with and it sucks to see one of your heroes like this. Something I will praise though is that at least for a good while after, this served as a wake-up call for Jeff and he kept clean for a good while, and they even did a good redemption storyline for him at Bound for Glory in 2012 I think. But the demons Jeff faced at this time also kinda hurt a potentially good storyline with Jeff being a heel for the first real-time in his career and being a darker character. Considering the recent hiccups he has faced, I just hope he doesn't fall again. Wrestling has too many stories of people falling to addiction. As a fan who became a wrestling fan in part to Jeff Hardy, I do not want him to become another sad story. I don't even care if he wins another world title or has another classic. All I want is Jeff Hardy to be healthy and well for his family, his fans, and himself.

Eric Bischoff would tell Conrad Thompson on his weekly 83 Weeks podcast that contradictory to previous reports, Hardy showed up at the mandatory talent call-time of 11 AM before disappearing for hours where he presumably was doing drugs. He wasn't seen until moments before his match, with Bischoff waiting in the gorilla position to confront Hardy about his absenteeism, which at that moment was when everyone discovered Hardy's condition. As Dixie Carter was not in gorilla at the time, nor anyone else in power, Bischoff took it upon himself to call an audible and told both participants (while trying to cut an impromptu promo) to end the match with Sting winning as quick as possible. Bischoff also added that had Hardy been discovered 45 minutes sooner, TNA would have likely been able to find a replacement and inform all of the affected parties in time. However, as most talent had already been out of their ring gear and showered by the time of the main event (or in some cases left the arena altogether), the crew in gorilla was left with no choice but to let Hardy compete, but end the match as quickly as possible.

From a bunch of interviews and such, here is what I've heard happened in that last match. Sting isn't able to find Jeff to talk about the match. Neither has Eric seen Jeff that day. Thirty minutes before the match Matt Hardy talks to Jeff, who appears fine. Match is on, Jeff's music hits and no Jeff. Eric spots Jeff being dragged to the go/gorilla position, another person states Jeff's feet are being dragged there. Everyone is shitting bricks, the music is going and Jeff can't even walk. Panic overload occurs in Eric when he spots Jeff walking down to the ring. An oh crap moment and we don't have time to have a board meeting to figure out how to fix this. Sting is told make it quick before he goes out. He's pissed, goes out. While his music is playing ref makes 'X' sign to indicate trouble with Jeff, which is already known. Eric walks out because apparently no one backstage can make a decision. As he walks out is wondering WTF am I going to say and do. Cuts a promo on the fly while informing Jeff and Sting to do the finish and end the match. Doesn't get around to telling ref. Match starts and Jeff messes this up. Ref recognizes the problem tells Sting if you pin him I'll count to three. Sting does his finish, and forcibly pins Jeff as the ref counts to three. Jeff is confused. After going backstage everyone just gets out of dodge. To watch live, yeah, a 0. Now to listen to the train wreck it became, 4 out of 5.
