I miss the 360 era so much. It was peak gaming. Gaming needs a revolution. Games utilized gameplay mechanics that have proven to be timeless. Devs were like, It's a game, will get right to the point & focus on doing what u want really well. Modern Console libraries are lacking selection & quality so much. Devs should never stop taking inspiration from previous game gens. Timeless games don't need hyper realistic graphics. Some of the best games have unique art styles. Anytime i say this someone in the comments always says: "umm well we have indie games" but my point is we need these kind of game selection on CONSOLES as well. PC's have steam & tons of access to a unique library of creative projects. Look at the Game Library of the most recent game consoles? Now look at previous generation consoles? There's no competition. It's not even close to the PS2, N64, PS1, Xbox, GameCube, Dreamcast, 360, PS3, etc. If game devs & game companies realize they are wasting such insane amounts of $ & time to make a game that still runs so terribly (no matter if u have the best PC possible. Which proves it's how these games were made. Not the tech hardware needing a upgrade. I bet we haven't even come close to pushing modern hardware to it's limits yet) *So if devs & companies can see the benefit of them taking inspiration from previous game generation designs, they might realize it wouldn't take so long to make a game, it wouldn't cost so much money to make EACH GAME. Give these things a chance to prove they are capable of being timeless. Hopefully we see a resurgence of pure nerdy passion & focus from devs if they are allowed to just focus on smaller passion projects. Especially with today's technological advancements. Previous games should still inspire newer games no matter how far into the future we go. We shouldn't leave those unique aspects of gaming universe in the past. Hopefully the struggles of the modern day triple AAA games will organically shift change back towards a better direction. I just worry about the gaming industry being at a certain point where people who are severely out of touch with the core gaming community are the ones that are making the most decisions and forcing devs to do things they completely don't want to do because they know it's a bad idea.. I wish we didn't have so many game companies get bought out. I miss when a game was a project worked on by a group of passionate people who decided they wanted to create this passion project.. Now it's like a popular underground band getting bought out by a mega Corp and now they have full say in the way they play music and when they play music and what they say in their music.. I hope gaming snaps out of this dark chapter and they find their roots they left in the wake of the Y2K era..

While they're not for everyone, I'd argue Nintendo is a AAA company and many of their games are very good. Unfortunately companies like Microsoft, Sony, etc. have looked at the success of the Switch and only seen it as a sign that there's still a market for handhelds, rather than seeing how prioritizing enjoyable gameplay experiences leads to success / profit.

When games have budgets, I think a lot of people forget where that money goes, it's for paying for labour (now whether that labour money is going into the pockets of the people actually working on the game is another point, again leadership), people are THE most expensive aspect of any production, so just having loads of money isn't going to improve anything. It's more that it gives companies more time if the company is being managed adequately. So then its a question of leadership. Money is just a resource like anything else and has to be managed accordingly. Just having loads of it isn't going to equal into a better product.

Some nice recommendations! And yeah, love me some Balatro. I think with "triple A" games or high budget games, it's mostly some of the western RPGs that can be hit or miss lately. But on the JRPG side, although the story trope can be repetitive at times, the quality of the higher budget series like Final Fantasy, Persona, Xenoblade Chronicles etc, are consistently high. You should give them a shot if you haven't already.

Nice video, man!👌👍 Im so excited for me to become a indie game developer, and start making some bad-ass/edgy, awesome games independently in the future!🤩 Also, not every triple AAA game is hot garbage. There are some good triple AAA games like Super Mario Brothers Wonder for a example. The best part about Super Mario Brothers Wonder is that the developers of Nintendo decides to start taking their time without any deadlines for Super Mario Brothers Wonder. God, I hope the developers of Nintendo (including the developers of Splatoon) decides to start making awesome games again without any deadlines like how they did with Super Mario Brothers Wonder. Other than that, reject triple AAA gaming, and embrace indie and AA gaming.

I quit AAA games over 10 years ago, and so far no AAA game has made me feel like I'm missing out. They offer nothing indies can't offer. Even high fidelity graphics isn't an advantage. They don't turn me on, they make maps overly cluttered, and the gameplay is less satisfying, because they need yellow paint to tell you where you can climb, and that sort of stuff that removes the satisfaction of finding stuff out for yourself. One of the main things that lead me to quit AAA gaming back then, was in Skyrim: the only reason I was able to play that game was a mod that removed the vision adaptation effect for when you entered an interior space, which strained my eyes to tears and couldn't be turned off in any other way. I had similar problems with ArmA 1 and 2, but there was no way to turn it off, so I couldn't play them at all. Money wasted. Lots of games had similar problems. That, and the DRMs, and the prices, and the decline in actual quality of the gaming experience that I was noticing, among other things, lead me to just stop caring about AAA entirely. And the more I've seen the AAA scene evolve over the years, the less I miss it.

So I have this hypothesis that nearly all of the numerous problems in the AAA space can be traced back to how much money is spent on making them. AAA budgets have become so enormous, so inflated that, just for example, the developer/publisher simply can not afford for the game to be anything less than a massive financial success upon release, which means that the game must be made to cater to the broadest audience and the "lowest common denominator," to put it politely because if it isn't there won't be a large enough target audience to recoup their costs and turn a profit. We're now reaching a point where AAA games have grown to be so expensive to make that even the strategy of targeting anyone that can hold a controller and breathe isn't enough to remain profitable anymore, which is why so many of them are also jam-packed with shoehorned-in microtransactions and DLC, because every single possible revenue stream must be exploited in order to keep the ship above water. There's tons of other problems that can also be linked to the overgrown budget problem, but this isn't the best format to go into a ton of detail, so I encourage anyone interested in the topic to do some research on how game development and the business practices around it have changed since the 90s/early-00s to now and how it has impacted game development as a whole.

Ngl, indie games are what got me into pc gaming years ago, tons of great games out there for cheap or free that'll run on most computers. My first desktop was a dell prebuilt running a core 2 duo and some non descript AMD gpu, but with some cheap upgrades I was able to play a lot of retro games and indie games. Of course I have much better hardware now, but I still adore indie and retro gaming for being higher quality and more accessible than Triple A pc games are, especially with the slew of mini PCs available now. I'm glad more people are realizing that indie games are a great alternative to a failing Triple A industry.
