Because of neurotoxins. I've read a few fishing forums that states it's okay to eat as long as you "stay away from the green stuff". Not always the case, and I think that's poor advice. Here's one peer reviewed journal you can see that found Saxitoxins not only in the skin and organs, but also the muscle tissue. Landsberg, J. H., Hall, S., Johannessen, J. N., White, K. D., Conrad, S. M., Abbott, J. P., & ... Kawabata, K. (2006). Saxitoxin Puffer Fish Poisoning in the United States, with the First Report of Pyrodinium bahamenseas the Putative Toxin Source. Environmental Health Perspectives, 114(10), 1502-1507. doi:10.1289/ehp.8998 Additionally there have been several poisonings in the states from eating puffer fish. Couple of people in Minnesota who ate dried puffer fish in 2014, Virginia recently had a case of tetrodotoxin poisoning in 2016. The CDC has released a warning on eating puffer fish due to neurologic illness, and the Florida wild life commission has as well. If you're aware of all those things and still want to eat puffer fish - go hog wild.

I bought the large size original Everglades seasoning (only size the store carried) omg it's hands down the best seasoning I ever used. It's sooo good it's hard to explain but the best thing about it is that it's like an enhancer, it amplify the flavor of whatever u cook. It's like it adjusts differently to everything that u use it on making it not taste like you use the same seasoning on everything. Thank you Arringtons family! Much love from Miami

@deermeatfordinnerI I have a question for ya Robert, firstly I just wanna say I really enjoy your channel. So yesterday I caught 4 checkered puffers in st. Lucie and kept them, and for the first time I attempted to clean them last night. Now I have cooked and eaten them before, when my buddy from work brought some into the restaurant (Brahma Bull Okeechobee) and they were really good both fried and grilled! And after watching your video, I felt like I could handle cleaning them myself. I followed your instructions to a t, removing all of the pluck (without rupture) and all of the skin. Even the secondary membrane below the first layer of skin which seems like it can be a little more difficult to remove sometimes than you let on. As it just seems to hang on by threads, took a little picking to remove this whole membrane. But now my wife and I both have some concerns, even though I feel confident that I cleaned them correctly. So my question is, is this safe to eat? And to feed to my family. I have looked up all the information I can find on Google and KZitem. But I'm still not sure if it is worth the risk, just how dangerous are these little drumsticks anyway?

First off I just want to say my kids and I love watching your vids! Being Hawaii transplants now in Alabama there's a lot we have to learn as far as fishing and hunting and your vids help out a lot! but I wanted to share a cool technique we use for tempura. Instead of cold water we use cold club soda, it makes the batter really light and crispy, if you haven't tried it before I hope you do and enjoy it as much as my family and I do! Keep posting great vids and maybe one day you can teach us Hawaii natives how its done in Florida and vice versa! Much love and aloha!

It is a checkered puffer fish, correct? "These cases included three fatalities, likely from TTX; for example, one woman died 45 min after consuming toxic liver from a checkered puffer fish " www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1626430/ I have read numerous articles and journals on incidents of people affected by puffer fish toxins, but no I am not a marine biologist. I'm not personally familiar with these fish and have no first hand experience. I do think people should be informed of possible risks, and if they then choose to continue to eat it - go for it.

Only the ones in Japan those are a non venomous species the only thing toxic about them is a green slime that is in one of their organs but they're really easy to get rid of the green slime I only know that because of rob check out his other catch clean and cook with the same fish
