Europeans do find the population a bit boring but more because there's not a lot in common. I travelled through Europe extensively and though people are heavily into the latest fads or organised activities, much the same as Sydney and Melbourne where it's all laid on for you the only thing I found in common was my interest in their history. But people from Perth are not as spoiled so they're heavily in to the outdoors and doing outdoor things so not a lot in common. Should you come back find an outdoor interest, you'll soon be adopted.

I live in Perth and travelled around the UK absolutely loved it. Whilst there I must have met 20 people from different countries who had visited Perth. But then spanning 30 years of travelling some 7 times in Sydney and Melbourne I only met 2 people who had been to WA. The most interesting one was the skipper of a Sydney ferry who lit up when we said we were from Perth, Went there twice he said and when I retire that's where I'm going to live. It's a family city that caters for our families not tourists but it is nice to hear that those who do visit appreciate the culture and environment we value so thanks, nice comment.

perth has become huge compared to what it used to be about 10 to 15 years ago. its grown so fast that a lot of people outside of perth dont even realise that. Perth used to be behind adelaide in population and 5th largest city. now its 4th largest, very close to brisbane, most likely overtaking it in 2022. only 8 years till it becomes the 3rd biggest city in aus. In terms of land residential area, its actually comparable to sydney giving it a less busy feel than any other city which makes people think that its a quiet city. Its kinda like LA vs New York. NY is only so busy because of its density and small land area. LA is huge by land area and a lot less dense.
@marcopolo3001
9 жыл бұрын
+Rs Sun The way I see it, that is a great analogy. Perth will one day be Australia's LA. Spread out but still full of character. It has so much land area that it can afford to be Australia's most sparse capital city. Melbourne is on the other hand nowhere near as dense as Sydney. It also suffers from its featureless and generic skyline. Nothing iconic, and no you cannot base your entire identity on the MCG. So I would say Melbourne despite predicted to overtake Sydney in population by 2050, will still be quite featureless and generic. Like a southern hemisphere version of London. Just as populous in decades to come and indistinct. Brissie I would say is like the San Francisco of Australia, its bridge, although not as long as the golden gate is still iconic and recognizable. Being in a sunny part of Australia, it also enjoys good weather like San Francisco or Miami. However in the future, Gold Coast really will be the true Miami of Australia. There really is no doubt of that. Which leaves good old Sydney town, which I liken to a merge between New York but not quite as big, to Chicago but not quite as tall, to Boston although not quite as quaint, however all harbor cities. Hell throw alittle bit of Hong Kong in there, as any traveller to HK will tell you its like an overgrown version of Sydney if it was left as a developers wet dream. It is super dense with a wonderful harbor. And even though its not as iconic as Sydney, it is still very majestic in its own right.

Cities in Australia cannot be recognized easily except for Sydney, because there are no city landmarks. Luckily, Sydney has an Opera House so it is on a par with Paris (Eifel Tower), New York (Statue of Liberty) and Kuala Lumpur (Petronas Twin Towers). Therefore cities in Australia must have unique or distinctive landmarks.

Why do we need something iconic here in Perth? Perth is beautiful the way it is. Why should Perth try to be any other city? It should be famous for its mix of city and relaxed, laid back lifestyle. It's a place someone should come to, to get away from the hustle and bustle of life (i.e. Sydney), but still be active enough to enjoy.

Then we can be just the same as everyone else. No thanks. These media people work for the corporations. They want to turn our beautiful natural wonderland of a family city in to a money making shit hole just like they have done to Sydney and Melbourne No way !! We built this city up to meet our cultural, environmental and Australian way of life , Family first and foremost, not tourist Those who come here overwhelmingly are tourists with kids and that's the way us locals want to keep it. Visit but bring the family. Just around the metro area the nature here will surprise you. Hire a car and drive in any direction. The diversity and beauty of the landscape from seascapes teaming with creatures of the ocean to brutal Rocky landscapes, the rich Aborigine history to lush karri forrests it will capture you, few escape.

Why not make the top floor of Central Park an observation deck. The view from up there is magnificent and would be good for tourism and might help to give Perth a better image for marketing. Look my friend, Perth has been a big country town and it will be.Perth is meant to be quiet,local,and maybe boring.This IS the characteristic of this city.Trying to change it into some kind of international city just sounds stupid and awful.

;D I'm from Europe, even I knew what is the name of this city , this is the most popular photo of Perth from google, it is funny that You want to have something original in Perth , in my opinion Perth is so beautiful and remarkable town that you really don't have to invent nothing new, At first there is the bigest park in the world, beautiful beaches, Indiana Teahouse overlooking Cottesloe Beach, the Narrows Bridge;D I hope soon i will live here, because we try to get permanent visa to Australia and look for some good jobs in Perth

The WRC put Perth on the world map but the State Government does'nt like motorsport so they put money before exposure and got rid of it. Perth needs events like this. It's an isolated city & who will visit unless they have a good reason too.

Whenever a new project is proposed there is so much whinging. How about a flying fox from the top of the BHP building to South Perth. Let’s start thinking people.

another reason, the photo they took, it is general view, every city in the worl with same angle, they are same, no difference! if you choose a right photo, Swan river, Kingpark and city, They will know where is it, or if they never see Perth or know about Perth, it is because Perth have not been developed for tourism, Mel yet, Brisbane yet, Sydney Yes Yes big yes of Australian tour
