Three year old Myah's reaction to a Toyota Super Bowl commercial featuring gold medalist and double amputee Jessica Long went viral - even leading to the toddler meeting the paralympian via Zoom.
Myah has her own inspiring story. She had surgery for spina bifida at Michigan Medicine before she was even born, with teams repairing the defect on her tiny spine in utero.
But her journey into the world became life-threatening when the family was later hit with an unrelated complication during the 26th week of pregnancy: Myah’s umbilical cord had wrapped around her arm, cutting off her circulation.
She was delivered less than 20 minutes later at two pounds, two ounces through in an emergency cesarean by U-M maternal fetal medicine teams.
