Today I made this goodness.. wow really delish.. I didn’t had much time so I used 2 cups of crushed honey graham crackers with 1 stick butter 2 tablespoons brown sugar, pinch of salt, vanilla extract, pressed on the bottom of pan , baked 10 minutes - instead of the flour batter… 1 cup of chocolate chips and 1 cup of roasted pecans.. didn’t have toffee at home, came out fantastic my husband loved it. Thanks so much!

I remember this recipe being in a very thick, red and white, paperback cookbook from the 70s or earlier. I remember because I made them so much I remember the recipe to this day. Also to this day I'm not quite sure why they are called English toffee bars because the recipe I had didn't have toffee bits in it either. Really, really good bar though.

I just had an idea. I like things that are gooey as well. What would happen if I took your recipe for sea salted caramels (which incidentally my mother loves. I have to make it once a year for the holidays) But heated it to a lower temperature, let it cool a bit, then pour it over the top. Then added some chopped nuts. It occurs to me after writing that, the problem would be the caramel might not ever stiffen up. I think it would depend on how high or low you heated the caramel to. It seems like in order for it to work it would have to be heated to just under your recipe temperature. What is your view? What would happen if you put the caramel on top of the cookie, let it cool, then melt the chocolate in a double boiler situation or microwave, then pour it over the caramel, then add nuts or toffee bits?

I made this today and it turned out very good ☺️. I modified a bit though 🙂, instead of baking in a pan i divided the crust equally into muffin pan lined with muffin cups/liners, tbsp each and it made 12 individuals, pressed with the back of 1/4 measuring cup. Baked for 15-20 minutes. Instead of toffee, sprinkled toasted walnuts Thanks Stephanie ☺️❤️

Thank you so much! Also, I just got my 14 cup Cuisinart Stainless Steel food processor, but I have a couple question since I am unable to read the manual due to my visual impairment. What is the tool that kind of looks like what a rubber spatula would look like and it came in the same bag as the manual. And then how do you adjust the speed on the machine if that is an option?
