Steve -- you are an inspiration to me. As a DIY'er and handyman, I now approach most jobs with a more confident attitude and just get it done, even if problems arise. I owe that to you (and your grinder!). I used to sit and look at the problem, now I give it the "how ya doin" and get the job done! Thanks Steve!

Put a new flapper in my toilet recently. Maintenance had put in some generic one before I moved in and it had never flushed right. It would also leak by unless the flapper landed just right. Always had to hold the handle down for a full flush too. Put an OEM American Standard flapper in there, got the chain set just right, adjusted the float arm slightly, and she flushes perfectly. Figured maintenance would just put in another cheap generic one. Well worth the $15 for the proper flapper.

It doesn't pay to try and clean the ballcock seal, either replace it or better yet change out the whole valve there cheap enough. Also change out the flapper while your at it ,water can be pretty harsh on em in time. Thanks for the video.

@@ranger178 that's ok for a quick fix, I've done the same at home ,but when there's a $150.+ service charge involved it's better to replace those inexpensive parts to hopefully eliminate a call back for the same issue. it's best to install those new but relatively inexpensive parts. yeah, that flushing the pipes is a pain they do it every year and crap gets in all the valves and strainers. keep meaning to add a whole house filter just to remove the dirt our water tastes good and is nice mountain spring water just dam rust from old lines in street messes stuff up.

I feel that. I’m a apprentice for a plumber in the maintenance wing of a company. And the city is doing a revitalization project of the water and sewer systems. Everytime the water gets turned back on I get widespread toilet Diaphragm and metering cartridge failure. I have suggested we install a filtering system but of course that’s fallen on deaf ears

The fill valve used to be called the ballcock. Back when you have a ball on a threaded rod. I was wondering, if there's water in the float? So, it's weighing it down?

You do know you don't have to replace the bottom, once you have the fluid master in all you have to do is replace the float stem! Just pull up on the white/clear/black (depends on year made) ring and pull the stem and replace!

hey hope you're doing well........ i got an old crane toilet got bought by american standard then put out of business .. used one of the fluidmaster full rebuild kits because I needed to replace the flush valve too.. the foam cone gasket between the bowl and the tank leaks and you can't buy an original one.. I am going to have to take a heat gun to it and see if i can get it to mold into place or something
