i am a vtuber watcher and in japan right now they have this master disciple situation with sf6 where vtubers and streamers come who are beginners to the game are coached by japanese pro players and face off each other in a tournament. The interactions between Tokido and the vtubers were really funny as it was his first time actually interacting with vtubers. Tokido came out at least to me to be a really genuine and straightforward dude.

I would interpret it in a different (and even better way), considering Justin’s question that was for how long he will continue playing. Tokido is saying that until he can gets better he will continue to play, which means that as long as there is a challenge for him and he can see he can beat that challenge, he will. It looks quite inspiring since if there is something you have not done at your best yet, you should pursue it.

I agree, fighting games are crazy now. Used to be, you pick a character, learn their moves, learn their super move, learn a combo or two… good to go. You could play competitively. Now that won’t even get you a couple of online wins, you will get WASHED. You need to learn a thousand different game mechanics that change with each game, on top of all that other stuff, AND you better have several combos memorized and mastered. You need to master i-frames, footsies, zoning etc… these terms didn’t even exist back in the day.

He's right about the average level of competition being a lot higher nowadays. Regardless of whether the games themselves are easier or harder, there's a lot more strong players now than there was 10 or 20 years ago. I think that's what he meant for the most part. Not that the systems of today's games are necessarily harder, but that back in the day, he could play a whole bunch of games, pick a top tier and still kinda coast and place pretty well, whereas now that it's his career and the e-sports scene for each game is so competitive, he feels like he kinda has to just dedicate himself to a single game to stay on top.
