Thanks for sharing!

Please could you tell me which company you used? Are you able to ask questions of the pilot if you speak Japanese?

Hi Melanie, I don't remember the name of the company anymore (I got this flight as a surprise for my departure from Japan) but it is located just after Tokyo Disneyland, right on the bay. I don't think the pilot is meant to act simultaneously as a tour guide, that would probably be too much of a distraction! You're planning a trip to Japan or you're living there now?

Hi Rudie, Thanks for the info. I think there are a number of companies located around there, but yours looked like the best! My son lives in Yokohama (having recently moved there from Shimokitazawa so I've been going there twice a year for 6 weeks for several years, have done most of the 'tourist' things long ago and am always looking for new and fun things to do. Do ou live there? Thanks again, Melanie

Hi Melanie, I lived in Tokyo twice as an expat. My first assignment was between 1993 and 1998, second time from 2009 to 2013, unexpectedly transferred from Beijing after spending five years there. Tokyo was a great experience, still miss Japan a lot!

As a private pilot, I can tell you that being a tour guide while flying is not that hard. Even when I did a midnight orbit around Dallas-Fort Worth (home to one of the top 10 busiest airports on earth), radio traffic only came in short spurts. Even then, most all of that was getting permission for the orbit (including altitude and entry into the airspace) and notification of departure from the area...all normal, quick procedures. The only other task was being aware of/directed around a movie studio helicopter in the area who doing the same thing I was. TL;DR - Short answer, ask the pilot before the flight if it's OK. If he says yes, just be aware that he may stop talking to you mid-sentence to talk/listen to direction over the radio.
