I live in upstate New York right next door to a university. I am not a student but what I love about the campus are its two beautiful sakura trees! There is a bench right under them so if I am early enough I go straight for the sakura trees and sit under them for hours on end. Sadly, though, we don't have the festival.

When I saw the thumbnail, I thought, "Wow, itʻs early for sakura hanami Tokyo!" But I see that those beautiful trees in full bloom were fake (lol) or the early-blooming variety. I'm from Hawaiʻi but I lived in Tokyo for 5 years, and I often went to Ueno for all kinds of activities, but often on Sundays when I and most people in Japan had the day off from work and school. I only went to see the cherry blossoms once because it was too crowded and people who were having "hanami," flower-viewing parties, were mainly involved in drinking and singing karaoke, and it was not really a pleasant atmosphere to view the lovely pink sakura in full bloom. I lived one train stop from Inokashira Park, so I preferred to go there to enjoy viewing the cherry blossoms, and I could see them every day on the train when I rode past the park. I also liked when the blossoms started to fall, there were lovely showers of pale pink petals into the pond. At Ueno Park, I also went rowing on Shinobazu Pond, and I visited the zoo a few times and many exhibits at the museums which I would never be able to see at home in Hawaiʻi, but again, because I could only go on Sundays (they are closed on Monday when I was also off) very famous or popular exhibits (like Claude Monet or Tutankhamun) were so crowded, I couldnʻt even see the things on exhibit. (For the Monet paintings, there were usually about 7 rows of people in front of me, and I could only see the tops of the frames!) Of course, I often went to Ameyoko to buy big bags of inexpensive snacks. So much fun shopping there! Ueno is a great place to visit if you avoid or can stand the huge crowds of tourists as well as residents of Japan.I think opening up after the three dismal years of the pandemic, like Asakusa, Ueno Park is going to be wild when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom this spring!

Hi my brothers! I love the tradition of White Day! It’s so nice to see so many people out and about again for the start of Sakura season. I cannot wait until you will have the time to set up another Hanami picnic one day. I miss those times. Brotherrrrrr…… my mama used to talk about the black markets right after WWII! Especially, for things like beef that was hard to get. I would love to shop and eat street food(s) at Ame Yokocho! I just know that I would go broke there. 😅 Thank you for this fun walk. I would’ve loved to have seen you boys bump into brother Drew there, as he was just there yesterday. Please take care ne! ❤❤

How I wish I could be there again to see the wonderful sakura displays! But if I can’t be there, the next best thing is to see it through your eyes Shinichi, together with Satoshi. 🌸Thank you so much for doing this walk. 🌸 Lots more like this please as the blossom comes out more and more🙏 Ueno Park is the first place I saw the cherry blossom on my very first visit to Japan. There are no adequate words for the beauty of the sakura season! But I’ll see you in the autumn for momiji! Yes, I’ve finally re-booked the trip I intended to take when Covid hit the world. See you in September!!!🍁 🍂🍁 😘p.s. I actually had a note on my calendar to go to Ameyoko Market! So your stroll through is super-helpful!

I really enjoyed this post Shinichi, yay glorious Sakura blooms 🌸🌸🌸 I have visited Japan once, in the spring of 2018, I enjoyed Sakura blooms in Tokyo, Kanazawa, Osaka and Kyoto… it was just wonderful.. I will add Ueno to my itinerary this coming Oct/ Nov, it looks lovely. I also suffer from hay fever and allergies. I take a Zyrtec everyday which helps a lot, I’ve tried a number of allergy tablets and have found Zyrtec, I recommend you give them a try if they are sold in Japan.

Ooooo! Possible hay-fever explanation! I've heard that air pollution like vehicle fumes can cause pollen to "hang" in the air in higher concentration. During the lockdowns there were way fewer vehicles on the road. I hope some medicine helps! This was such a wonderful video! Thank you! I can't wait to see what you got upto in Europe! 😁💜

On our first trip to Japan, we stayed near Ueno Park. We came in February that trip and we missed Sakura. We arrive next Thursday and will be next to Sarue Park. We saw a picture of Sarue Park this week, and it's not blooming yet. It should in full bloom while we are there for 3 weeks. We had coffee at that Starbucks when we were there in 2018. We took that walk across the pond several times.
