Great to see you went for it Lee, Great to see your excited and enthusiastic about what you doing as that is key enjoying your hobby i think The new trackwork looks excellent loving the new platforms to stop the wood grain showing though try woodland scenics road surface paint or skim over the top with a thin layer of polyfiller another option is using a bag of tarmac scatter i think Javis do it. Excellent weathering on the platform sides i dont envie you having to modif all the rest of the platform sides but once done it will look fantastic. All the best Pete

Thanks for those kind words Pete, really appreciate it mate. I like the idea of the tarmac scatter that sounds good. It might just be a case of more coats, but I've run out of paint so won't know until yhe next one gets delived. Those platfom edges work out that I need 75 more! Ouch! Ive just finished modifying 20 of them for the island platform that's second from back, just need to weather them. Once these are done, I will start on the shelter for platform 6 as I need to order more edges. Its exciting stuff. Thanks again Pete. Lee

Lee, you are the platform king! You can tell it was the right decision to lose the elevated section, as the layout is already better to operate. Where you've got that cut-out on platform 4, you could make a new bay platform 4a, and/or you could extend the section to the buffers to stable a 20 or 31. This could then take LUL stock away to works from P4, for example, or redundant Class 302 or 307 units to Shoeburyness for stotage/disposal, or just use as a freight interchange. Keep it up!

Mike, you certainly know your stuff mate, and defo know the lines I'm modelling. I was actually thinking of doing exactly that with platform 4 and make 4a in the cut out section (in fact I think it must've been used that way, but I need to research more). Excellent comment Mike as always. I'm going to look into this further because I want it replicating Upminster and although I've got it right, its only right as Upminster sits today and could of most definitely be layed out as we suggested, in perhaps the 80's? Really is interesting. Thanks so much Mike, all the best and have a lovely Christmas mate. Lee

I want to do the same but gotta wait until I move. All you need now is someone to produce an inexpensive London underground loco and a couple of C2C locos.

I know mate, that is exactly what I need, but its typical that either of them are produced. They do a model that has the same body as the class 357 c2c but its not in the livery nor electric. When you move, it'll be nice to see you start a layout, you'll have to keep us all updated. Thanks for watching and have a great Christmas. Lee

Gosh you've been busy mate! When you get fed up filing down the backs of all those platform edges just seeing how good platform 6 looks should reinvigorate you. You'll have it down to a fine art by the time you finish. If you have the dimensions correct then I suspect the inset on platform 3 (?) originally had a line coming in and terminating. The short and useless spur from the pointless point could be the remains of some trackwork connected to this? I see you already have some thoughts and suggestions on fitting the third rail. If you haven't already seen it there's a good video of this on Tony North Eastern's site. He uses the Peco chairs without the collars under code 75 rail. Keep up the good work! I hope you and the family have a very happy Christmas and that we all have a better 2021.

Hi Ozzy, hope you're keeping weell mate? Thanks for those encouraging words as you always do, I really do appreciate it im off work today, so I've literally spent the whole entire day, filing, painting and weathering the platform edges for the island platform (4&5). It has been worth it though. Talking of Tony North Eastern, I was talking to him throughout the fitting of the 3rd rail and it is defo something that is going to be done. Platforms 3, 4 &5 are all District Line so need the 3 & 4th rail in place. Its nice because I'm actually so excited about this build, it really has got me motivated. Like you said, today, I was thinking "dam" I've got 20 platform edges to do and thats just for the one island, but... I do look at platform 6 and get inspiration. Ozzy, thanks so much mate for your input as you always do, I look forward to hearing your comments because they are always supportive and true. Thanks again mate and hope you and family have a lovely Christmas! Take care and all the best, Lee

On my layout I didn’t use the PECO chairs for the forth rail as it would of caused clearance problems with the undersides of some stock I used PECO vide 75 rail and filed the ends down to produce the slope this took time but looked good and Stuck the rail direct to the sleepers if you can do a one to one I’ll send you some photos ,take care mate

I know exactly what you're talking, I saw the exact same method in a railway magazine where they did one version with the peco chairs and the the other was using the code 75 glued direct to the sleepers. I've layed some rails on the sleepers just to see the effects and it does look good. I'm not working today and just thinking about tackling the dreaded job of smoothing the backs of all those peco platform edges and weathering them, its gonna take forever with 3 island platforms, 2 of which are 8 fricking foot long! @@leewhall2504 I wonder if an old OS map would reveal the mystery of the truncated platform and track. Could provide a great backstory for the layout. Hahaha, you really wouldn't believe how hard I tried with the clouds. Talking of an OS map sounds like the way to go, it is just so strange with the platform being cut away like that, it must've been for a good reason. I'm going to try my best to find out why👍🏻

@@leewhall2504 there are some online resources including open map railways but the OS historical maps are only available for purchase. If you had access to a library that carried them or could get access that might work. Seems that at some stage there was a subway line that was abandoned that was not associated with the London Underground but it is obscure to me and I’m not familiar with the geography being as I am in the Antipodes. 😞 Anyway see www.ponies.me.uk/maps/osmap.html?z=14&x=0.2511&y=51.559 Or follow various other links that pop up when you click on the lat long coordinates in the Wikipedia entry.
