That was very cool. It's great they have maintained the history of the place, but sad they were so hard on people. Children in those days certainly weren't coddled like they are now. In fact I think they were treated rather beastly. Seems like you could do hard time for practically anything. Thanks for another stroll through history.

Oakum was the stuff jammed between boards on ship to keep them watertight. Your Travel Troll character looks like one of those big pickles that come in gigantic jars.

Dan quick question, what is the name of the music you play at the very end of your Travel troll videos? You also used it a lot in Scotland wild camping. I just really like it.

Since Dan is busy, well who knows. it is called happy mandolin. You need to have quite a few subs and then you get KZitems extended music library.

picking oakum was extraordinarily hard on the hands...used to be given as a task to women and children in the workhouse...I gather many of the women in my mothers side, (she was actually born in the workhouse as late as the 1920s), had to do this..and I'd give Mazzy a 9 as well...

The oakum came from the Royal Navy dockyards. It was used on ships to help make the joints between the planks watertight, that's why they were covered in tar. When they were unraveled, they were sent back to the dockyards to be used again. Just goes to show that recycling isn't a new thing.

A woman that's attractive, funny and detects, those are like unicorns around here. Ha. Look forward to where ya'll go next. Thanks.

Dunno whether the Hippodrome in Great Yarmouth would be any good to you its only 115y old and might be worth a look. Was a good show when we saw it a few years ago with the kids and very unique (water is involved) and there is an old museum at the back after the show where you can go and see behind the scenes and the history of the circus etc
