Might be. But still, Amazon, after GOT ending, tried to fill the vacuum. It is just incompetency. The showrunners were bred by J. J. Abrams to solely be able to hired, and were taught about mystery box.

Thank you *Nerd Cookies* for continuing to put a voice to the thoughts (and feelings) so many of us other nerds have regarding this unfortunate affront to good storytelling that RoP represents. The continued disregard for Tolkien’s carefully crafted characters and lore is beyond sad. RoP’s nonsensical plots coupled with low quality writing is what makes the show both pointless and unwatchable. The majority of stories they’ve shown so far *do not* mesh with any Silmarillion story set in the Second Age. For me, the biggest tragedy is the lost potential for what *could* have been if Amazon had chosen to respect the lore and craft a well written show that was accurate in its’ portrayal of characters and events found in the Second Age. Call me mellow dramatic but the lost potential is *heart breaking* and low key fills me with rage for how badly Amazon has botched this series.

Celeborn had to be somewhere, but they wrote themselves into a corner saying "Galadriel never saw him again". Now they have to find some way to reintroduce him. He has to be captured and not killed for some reason, but being corrupted and brainwashed into Adar is not impossible. The only other thing I can think is they do some crazy shit where Sauron brainwashed her to make her think Celeborn is dead. Celebrian is fairly easy. Galadriel didn't mention her, so Celebrian can just be in an elven settlement somewhere. Its stupid Galadriel never mentioned her own daughter, but at least its easier to skirt around.

I really don't think Amazon is looking at attributable revenue from the show, eyeballs etc. That's how films and linear tv work - tickets, viewership, ad revenue, a bit of brand recognition. This thing is best regarded as a big ad spend. Advertising metrics have been pretty much shot ever since streaming began. No one knows if it's a good spend or not. As long as AMZN can cross-subsidize, maybe $1b of ROP-themed ads is ok. For them. Makes for awful tv tho. Apple's spend on Foundation is in a similar camp.

I know from certain individuals who have connections to the show that allegedly, it was a nightmare behind the scenes. people were fired left and right, writers couldn't agree what story they wanted to tell, the show was originally about a young Aragorn, some wanted to adapt the Silmarillion but didn't have the adaption rights to the book, the Tolkien estate giving them a long list of things they could and couldn't do on the show such as referencing the movies (even though the showrunners wanted to connect ROP to the movies) writers being fired because they wanted to insert more woke elemets into the show and was met with disapproval, Tolkien selling out to Bezos on his tantalizing and money venture in making LOTR into the next Game of Thrones (which we all know how highly successful that was) a Tolkien scholar being fired, COVID19 impacting everything, the originally being 10 episodes but somewhere being changed to 8 instead, Jeff Bezos allegedly visiting the set and was furious on what he saw and demanded changes to be made in the middle of shooting. All in all, this show was produced with everyone's hands tied behind their backs, not really knowing what they wanted to do and the clock was ticking, and the best they could come up with was fan fiction.

This show was just a big ad, not the show itself, the 1B acquisition and all the news around it and the show are amazon ads. Having a good Tolkien adaptation was always secondary, maybe even a bad one worked better as an ad. For me it is that simple and that sad, they got the rights and the name just for the headlines and brand recognition.

It is the way of modern corporate nerd IPs. Buy the IP, put a bastardized spin on it, watch it fail, blame the fans and play the victim, double down on fan hate, repeat till property is ash. 😊It's both disgusting and tiring, because these people don't think we see this pattern for what it is.

I think there is a staggering amount of hubris involved in believing that you can take a beloved ip and reimagine it so massively, then still be able to count on the existing fans to support you. You at least need to make it entertaining in order to attract the normies and more casual fans, like the earlier MCU content.

Im a Tolkien fan and I think its alright. Idk what the fuck you people are talking about. I think its actually mostly faithful. It diesnt make any more changes than Peter Jackson. Its not nearly s lore breaking as you obnoxious people claim. The Second Age is wide open for all kinds of things to happen. It was very vaguely described.
