here's a link to download my forest fill image texture (plus all the other textures I make in the full video series). adventuresinmapping.files.wordpress.com/2024/02/onestyletorulethemall_assets.zip if you just can't get enough fantasy mapping, and would like to draw maps from scratch, check out Wes Jones' channel, "Fantasy Mapping" www.youtube.com/@FantasyMapping

Hi! I would like to express my deep gratitude for all the content you make. One day I saw a very beautiful map on the Internet and wrote to its author, asking him what program he used to make it. He said that he did all the work from start to finish in arcGIS and recommended your channel. I never thought it was possible to create such cool designs without using other graphic editors

I'm new to ArcGIS and GIS in general. I'm a sociology major who is trying to incorporate GIS into my studies. I was blown away by Arc's crime analysis feature, but now you're telling me I can make fantasy maps in Arc, too???

Hi John. Just can't wait for part 2, 3 & 4.... this is gorgeous! Not just the skills you're applying, but the idea! I'm gonna work it out right away as I'm living in a dreamy place in the Maya highlands (it might be a nightmare as well?). BTW, I saw your guest appearance in the "Going Places with Spatial Analysis" MOOC recently. Those 6 minutes were pure fresh air. Did you ever suggest to ESRI to organize a MOOC on your own. This would be great, kinda "Open the airlock door HAL!" From Guatemala, many thanks for the inspiration.

@JohnNelsonMaps I will happily share it when I get to try. unfortunately it will have to wait :( but, I used some of your hillshade generalization tutorial and made a cool map for a local conservation group 😀 for poster-size print out Which leads to the question - if I want to zoom into an area of it, again for print, how do I "de-generalize" the hillshade? Would I remove the DEM 50 and DEM 30 layers maybe? I haven't tried it yet. Plus, I Love Your Work and am super grateful for it. The things you share must have taken forever to figure out and by sharing them, you're advancing cartography faster than anyone else. If there were a Nobel prize in cartography, you'd unquestionably get one!

@@dominiontheory wow that is so kind of you! For non generalized hillshade for larger scale mapping, you can reduce or eliminate the blur effect to suit your needs.

Seems I used the wizard comment too soon. “The world is not in your books and maps, it’s out there.” JRR Tolkien Funny irony, I've watched most of Fantasy Map videos , and even purchased his book. Seems the world is in fact a circle.
