Great interview! I have to disagree with my fellow Pasadena native, Old Town has never been a "slum" lol, although it has changed quite a bit over the years... The Rose Parade runs through Old Town so even historically it's always been the semi highlight of the city. Keep up the great work Tom.

Well, it depends on how you define slum I guess, but it was definitely not a part of town people would go to and hang out the way it is now. You went to Old Town to go to a pawn shop, maybe eat at a old restaurant, or go to a thrift store. Two of my favorite thrift stores were in Old Town on Colorado just West of Fair Oaks. I found a lot of cool stuff and it was very cheap. i bought some cool 50-60 mens suits for $10 each back in the 1980s. I still have them. And there were boarded up shops along the street. In fact, one empty store front was a redesign project for my USC Architecture course in 1979.

I lived in LA for 9 yrs and had to move for family reasons. There's many things I miss and some I don't but LA has a certain feel that one doesn't get anywhere else. These videos help me keep in touch with that and are shot and produced very well. Thanks and hope it continues for many years. It's my understanding that there is a series of underground, former bootlegging tunnels, in Glendale near the Police Station I believe. May be worth further investigation. Thanks again!

An artist's rendition of a city tour. You guys are just incredible. I discovered this series today and just sat at my desk all afternoon and evening, eyes locked on the screen, not moving, Just captivated by every word that came out of your mouths. Every next video had as much character, innovation and originality as the previous ones and more. I especially loved the episode on graffiti. It was fun seeing a man, so in love with what he does. You could tell that he had so many years of wisdom inside of him, and that same wisdom was found in every person you had on this show. Even the little girl that you were with in Ferndell knew how to love and respect LA. You guys are definitely the freshest thing right about now. A documentary of a city constantly changing, with people that are just simply inspiring. Tom, Derrick and everyone else that has worked on this show: Thank you so much for making this. The love, care and work that you have put into this is definitely noticed and very much appreciated. I am sure that a lot of people, including me, will see much more of you in the future. Be sure that if I ever were to visit LA I would keep everything you said in my mind. You are the only ones that have ever made me fall in love with a city I have never been too.

you should do a series on highland park and the history of it and stories and the gentrification of it all. its a small city filled with beauty if you know where to look. please take it into consideration!
