Especially from 6:20 moving onward. Just ridiculous. You can tell he hit his favorite keys there.

Very few if any “lick” repeats! The amazing thing is that he’s hearing the changes in all 12 keys. That’s deep.

Tom Harrell is one of my favorite trumpet players; he is a true jazz genius. Also, if anyone still has this transcribed in Bb, I would greatly appreciate a copy!

Jamey told me this was recorded at Murray State University during a clinic session in what was then the Old Recital Hall Annex (Now the Performing Arts Hall).

Todd, Tom performed 12 key blues a number of times at Jamey's camps. I heard him do so at several of these. Always consistently the same level of fluency.

I transcribed the first six choruses (in Bb). For some reason it won't let me post the link, so just search "Josh Gilbert solo transcriptions" on google.

I was at this concert at Jamey's camp. I most of the solos he played that week. The solos are in a box somewhere in my basement in my Chicago home. The main thing is that they're in my head, but I need to get them for students. Tom and I became good friends over the years.

transcribe it yourself, its worthwhile! I transcibed the first choruses in Bb and proceeded to learn them in all twelve keys. Took me like a year. But damn, you learn bebop from that solo alone kinda
