He tells a story about performing in the US at the beginning of his career, and Frank Sinatra caught him afterward. These days, an audience would start applauding as soon as he hit the chorus, because they're so amazed to hear a singer who can actually sustain a power note without turning it into a 37-note run. But that vocal quality was there with so many singers from the 1950s and '60s. Perhaps one day you'll check out more from the giants of that era - Sinatra, obviously, Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Bennett, and many more.

Jamal, I think that the reason that you and so many other reactions like this music is that you can understand the words easier. A lot of songs now a days are soooo hard to understand what the artist is saying. Just a 72 year olds opinion. Thanks so much for the great music..

I’m 60, I think you are right. Plus there was no computer to clean up their vocals, talents like Jones had to deliver. There is no reason to be a great vocalist with style, you just need a computer and a publicist. And a KZitem channel! Lyrics meant something, now lyrics are mostly rubbish.

I am 50 and i can completely disagree with you. i listen to so many different spectrum's of music old and new. If the song is good and sung well the era it was sung makes zero difference. Ive come across a lot of older songs that i have no idea what they are saying. That is why mondegreens exist. If you have not heard of that its miss heard lyrics. Some dozies out there.

Partially true, I suppose. The instrumentation, singing notes, and overall feeling of a song is what initially hooks me to it. I usually don't pay much attention to the lyrics the first time I listen to a song. And if I can't understand the lyrics, I just look them up on the internet.

To me, this was his best song ever! Green green grass of home, it's not unusual, Delilah .... they don't compare to the one you just listened to. But he can sing anything. A classic voice, iconic.

I was born in 1961 so we was *SPOOOOOILED* by so much really great music of all genres, races, etc. in the 60s, 70s, and 80s ... and everything overlapped; in the Top 10 there might be a instrumental jazz piece, an R&B piece, a country piece, a folk piece, a comedy piece and a rock piece, and we listened to IT ALL. So much diversity back then, so it's always nice to see the younger generation getting to experience what we got to enjoy! I also hope that it will inspire young black folk to take up instruments and compose their own music!
