So this entire song was born from a day out at lunch. He saw a hairstyle he liked and said that's how I would do my hair if I was black. This is where going out of order is kinda tough. Because this came out shortly after whiteboy and they were telling him "you aren't listening to our story" so he went around the neighborhood and listened and this is what the people in Crenshaw told him.

When he made this song he was living in Crenshaw California in the ghetto and all his neighbours were black and he would often talk to them about how they saw the world and this song came to him - to get people who may not listen to hear the side of black people - then Tom also had to really look at how he’d feel if he wasn’t white You have to really hear his words for what they are

#HOG family here for it ❤️ I really do enjoy your reactions because you try to actually listen to understand instead of just listening to reply/disagree. We definitely need more people like that because this world wouldn't be where it is if we really tried to hear the other person. I have alot if respect for you for that. What I got out of this was Tom trying to put himself in someone else's shoes, not really speak for anyone rather to understand where someone else is coming from. I can't remember if you got to the song Whiteboy but he did it behind the scenes for that video and he explains a discussion he had with his neighbor they had to do with barrel of snakes and only some of them are poisonous basically you're going to just expect them all to be poisonous (relating that to not all white people are racist but because some are), he explained it better than I just did. When Tom moved here from Canada he lived in South Central LA on Crenshaw, and he and Nova were the only white people out there and I think it really was a culture shock for him he explains that too in the video. So I explained that because he was around people who thought this way and I think he was trying to make sense of it because he really does believe in his music creating conversation and if you can't talk about why you believe something then we can never get to the root of the problem to move forward. Anyways I hope that makes sense. I loved that you said it came from a good place, i really believe it did and I think you understood it by the end. Thanks for listening to it all the way through, i def willcontinue to support your channel.

That's the thing as most people didn't know there was a difference until they were taught later that there's a difference I grow up in a town that was mostly white and it was Green Bay Wisconsin now it's very mixed race but when I was a kid it was 95% White or native American we have a high native American population which I personally am Green Bay packer players people thought its racist to say but it was facts. Then major move from Chicago it became very mixed when i hit middle school and if anything black kids were more popular because different was better growing up. No one cared until we were told were different but if anything it ignorance more than racist because culture is different.

I think he made this for his fan base considering they are predominately Caucasian. He’s trying to break stereotypes and break some questionable actions down in a way they will understand. I know some white folks who have never even interacted with minorities outside of business interactions. That’s my POV of this. Toms fan base goes from 7-90 so this can help create understanding.

@Princedrethepresident The whole point of the song is to create conversations. You're allowed to work through the song at your speed. I can't image a song from a black artist about serious white issues, idk how I'd feel or take it at first. It's hard to understand a perspective that's not your own, no matter what perspective you're coming from. Try to ignore the negative comments. Loved the reaction!
