Magee, on paper, sounds no more or less marketable than Hogan or Anderson or Blanchard or Hennig or Roberts, yet those 5 names and plenty others are now legendary in wrestling.

I really wished Magee did better. Wish he could've loved and embraced the sport more. He had it all, Kenny Omega looks and a godly physique. He had strength. And I really like his athleticism. I mean this man is doing SSP flips before it was cool in Wrestling. He's really like a prototype of guys his size who can do flippy shits. Yet he didn't capitalized on that. His strikes were awkward, especially his kicks. His stance is weird. His walk and hulking up is worse than Ultimate Warrior's. Yet there's so much potential to him but when like 5 years had passed and there's still no development y'know that you're just not really meant for Wrestling. Which sucks. I have him as World Champ on Fire Pro right now so at least I get to honor his wasted potential.

There is an incorrect premise here. Vince needed to replace Hogan because Hogan was going to try out Hollywood, which he did. he needed to put the belt on someone else while hogan was making films. it ended up being Randy Savage then Ultimate Warrior. It never had anything to do with his hairline.

And this is why Bret Hart is the greatest in ring wrestler of all time. In a time of kayfabe, Bret Hart made you second guess whether or not wrestling was fake. He could turn a turd into gold in the ring. What puts Bret ahead of Shawn Michaels is that, when he entered the ropes, all out of ring factors were gone, it was all about the match and making as flawless as possible. Whereas Shawn, as talented as he was, would often put himself above the match, for instance his matches with Vader and Hogan. Yes Hart had diva moments as well, but that was left in the back. Bret Hart was like the Jerry Rice of wrestling and Shawn was like Randy Moss. Yes, Moss was more exciting to watch and had more natural talent, but he would take plays off and even said himself that he only plays when he wants to. Rice on the other hand, was not as naturally gifted, but he honed his craft like no other WR in history, and as soon as he stepped on the field, there was only the game and nothing else.

If you can wade through the 25,000 HE LOOKS LIKE KENNY OMEGA AF SMH 100 PERCENT SIGN comments from millenials, then you get the TOM MAGEE DIDN'T HAVE WHAT IT TOOK comments. It's 80's pro wrestling, does anybody remember how that worked? If you can make Lex Luger into a star, Tom Magee could EASILY be a star. Flair Carried Sting to good matches. Hawk & Animal wouldn't sell and were wacked out on cocaine just doing power moves. Hulk Hogan did 4 moves tops. You could've just painted Magee up as Ultimate Warrior and he could've done as good of a job as Jim Helwig, probably 10X better actually. I'm pretty sure there's more to this story behind the scenes as opposed to what happened in the ring. Lex Luger was a much worse wrestler than Magee by a mile, and they made Luger into a legend. Sure, Magee was no where near Flair, Steamboat, Macho or Bret Hart but he could easily be on par with the in-ring work of guys like Sid, Luger, Nash and Hogan. I mean, you guys think that Mongo McMichael could be a Horseman, but they couldn't get Magee over???????

As a Canadian, it definitely would have been awesome to see Magee become the star Vince envisioned he'd be. Although once Vince has his champion, we know how overbooked, pushed and dominant they become until most fans get sick of them. It's all moot now but somehow I imagine that if Magee became "The Mega Man" (which would also have been cool since I am a huge fan of the Mega Man series), Vince would have likely advertised Magee as an American to seamlessly transition people from one red, white and blue character to another. Vince is as patriotic as they come and especially during the 80s and early 90s, the majority of foreign wrestlers were heels because USA good, everywhere else bad. Magee must have really stunk for Vince to give up on him as other bigger guys would be pushed even though they offered little beyond size and perhaps becoming a monster for go figure; a Hulk Hogan, or other top guys to slay. So who thinks Magee is going to get inducted into the 2020 WWE Hall of Fame? Just me?

Bring the tape was lost is a good reason hogan/pier vs orndorff/orton never made it to coliseum video ( was supposed to be on best of 10 never happened) or prime time or even the unreleased dvd

That match wasnt awful! It was great! Also you spelled Hogan's last name Bollea wrong. Also, Vince never told Magee about any of his plans for him. Tom never knew until this tape was found, and learned about how legendary that match was, and Vince's plans for him.

Oh my, you wrestling fans are such carny marks. The mystery of the Brett vs Tom match and "lost tapes" is in fact so purposefully mysterious and inconspicuous because everybody knows that the Ultimate Warrior died. The thinner less muscular Ultimate Warrior was indeed Tom Mackey, as Chris Jericho would in most likelihood correctly pronounce the man's sir name. Just look at Warrior's "fued" with Goldust as proof that the 2nd incarnation of Warrior Warrior was indeed ol' Tommy boy, not to mention his WCW stint. So finally, now you know the real deal😆.

Vince has wwf tapes in a room and there is a sign that says " NOT TO BE DUPLICATED PLAYED IT DAMAGED " And in case a fire happens there's a foam that will protect the tapes from being damaged but i would love to be able to spend a week with those tapes and watch them ..

And here I thought the most sought after piece of Wrestling Lost Media is the death of Owen Hart... (Which is coincidentally sitting in the same vault as this Bret Hart vs McGee Footage!)
@Pseudiom

I suppose that is one, but people have always known that WWE has that footage. The Tom Magee footage was always in question. I think everyone understands why WWE refuses to release that one. So it is more "inaccessible" than lost (not that I really want to see it).

Magee was a great athlete. If you haven’t seen his years competing in worlds strongest man they’re easy to find. But even if he had been able to put together a good match with someone other than Bret his promos would surely have brought him down. Even in the few interviews he did for WSM he seemed very uncomfortable behind a microphone. And his psyching routine was absolutely bizarre. “You! Get on! Get on you! I! Gotta! Have it!” all while smacking his head into a piece of cardboard. Again, an amazing athlete. But he probably wasn’t meant to be a wrestler (Bill Kazmaier was one of the strongest ever and his wrestling career never took off either)

Tom Magee did have "IT". We are talking about him 34 years later??? Tom Magee was miss-handled. He only had a handful of matches and he was a rookie. Given time and training, he could have been a top star. And if you watch some of his matches he was pretty good with the right opponent. So shut your trap nerd!

So Magee wasnt good enough to be that guy who runs through everyone with their strength and agility wearing tassels and face paint yet Hellwig was ? Tom Magee seemed to just lack basically what Warrior lacked when it came to selling moves. Idk I think if he had more time on the road, doing house shows and/or behind the scenes continuing to learn the business do you think he would have been a better worker eventually? Why not have three top guys? Warrior, Hogan, and "The man of iron" Megaman lol! Not gonna lie his acrobatic moves were impressive for a guy his size. I mean at least make him a decent jobber.

You know why wwe finally released the match? Bc of spite! They had found the video and has a thing going on at starcast, obviously when Vince got news of this out of spite he opted to put it on the network first! And that's part of the reason wwe is losing interest with people Vince just does things out of spite these days and there product just really isn't any good anymore or have been for awhile,us as wrestling fans need competition! So ready for AEW

Lol Bret is such a weird dude who takes himself too seriously. "Nooo I can't lose to this new guy in front of muh Canadian fans!". Vince having to promise to never show anyone the tape to get him to help out new talent just shows what a selfish narcissist he really is. If anyone else was getting a push he'd throw hissy fits and refuse to put them over until he got something in return. He even admits it in his book and talks about it like he was right.
