Bill Kazmaier, a worlds strongest man winner, who spotted Tom Platz on that set said they were fake weights years later. However, tom was know to be a super strong squatter especially in rep work and it seems to be in the realm of possibility that he could have pulled off such a set. He also went significantly deeper on every rep than mitch
@obviamorbisterrarum

While this is undoubtedly a significant accomplishment, the depth of the squat is crucial for a fair comparison. We shouldn't diminish Tom Platz's achievements. Furthermore, when invoking Mr. Platz's name in reference to a feat he performed, the standard of execution should be comparable to his level of performance.
@iAnglesClan2

@obviamorbisterrarum Tom Platz used a squat suit and he's got shorter femur with longer torso and better leverages for squats. So yes, Mitchell absolutely destroyed Tom Platz record.
@obviamorbisterrarum
3 ай бұрын
@@iAnglesClan2 Your point about anatomical differences actually undermines the comparison you're trying to make. If Tom Platz and Mitchell are so anatomically different, it doesn't make sense to directly compare their performances. You can't dismiss Platz's advantages while solely focusing on Mitchell's achievement. Furthermore, there are other factors to consider: Weight difference: Who weighs more, Tom or Mitchell? This is crucial in strength sports. Equipment: You mentioned Platz's squat suit, but didn't Mitchell use knee sleeves? Both are performance-enhancing equipment. Mental fortitude: In Platz's record performance, he was seen smiling and engaging with the crowd while squatting heavy weights. This demonstrates exceptional mental strength and control. Instead of trying to definitively state that one athlete "destroyed" the other's record, it would be more productive to appreciate both performances in their own contexts. Each athlete has their own strengths, and both have made significant contributions to the sport of powerlifting.🙃

@iAnglesClan2

@@obviamorbisterrarum I'm saying Mitchell's squat is better and harder to do. Yes Mitchell used a knee sleeve but Tom used a squat suit which helps significantly more. And again, there are anatomical differences. Tom Platz has shorter femur with a longer torso. His body was made for squatting compared to Mitchell. Mitchell was able to squat over 500 lbs for over 20 reps but that's because he's a genetic phenomenon. So yes, they're both good. Just stating that Mitchell's was definitely harder.

Also the event was a competition against the top powerlifter Fred "Dr.Squat" Hatfield who could squat 1000 lbs. They did a one rep max squat which Fred Hatfield won and they also did the squat for reps which Tom Platz won. Neither of those guys would have needed to use fake weights.
