I'm glad I got sober, before discovering Tom Waits. I probably would've downloaded EVERY album he made, bought a case of whisky, put the music on shuffle, & proceeded to drink myself to death. Having said THAT, I'm glad that in sobriety, I can enjoy his music with a CLEAR head, and appreciate what a unique talent he is. I'm approaching 49 years on this planet, & he's my new hero. Warts & all!

He’s the originally heavy metal vocalist with that rough voice. But in an intelligent songwriter way. A folk and rock artist. Tom is such a legendary and has such unusual voice. It minds me of dirt bike walking and being working out being all dirty and muddy with a swamp kind of feel. I just love this.

In 1993 I got Bone Machine eventually wearing a groove in the CD. That afternoon I had already scored some speed and later on on my first playing of the tracks on my trucks stereo system I replayed this song since it was appropriate for the moment . The plan was to drive all night, but I already had some tweak so i made a slight change to the lyrics.
