Tom Waits was once asked what genre he fell under - he responded that he's never fallen under a genre; fell under a truck once, and never been the same since.

Heard Bullet Boys version first, back in '91, loved it then I found out it was a Tom Waits song/story. Been a fan since I heard "Small Change Got Rained On". He is an acquired taste, but the only one of his kind! Fantastic song!

I've been rewatching this at least once per day. The absolute, inimitable groove this man has going on. He put his heart into that footwork and bullhorn! I can't control myself from stomping a little every listen.

I remember I first heard this song as a teen when the glam metal band Bulletboys released a cover in the late 80's. Not knowing it was a cover at the time, I was amazed that they could go from "Smooth Up In Ya" to a song this good. Live and learn! thanks for posting Tom's superior version.

When I first got into Thomas.....besides the amazing Small Change world, I was really hooked on the bass lines he had on his albums...Step RIght Up, the wonderful bass line of Barbershop, from Foreign Affairs...instantly classic...and was always waiting for more of those...had to wait until this to get another..Hang On St. Christopher....now there's been another drought of them again....

I still like BB but Tom Waits is a complete badass!! I love that bullhorn bit...who fucking does that???

Check Tom Waits out in Rumblefish and Down By Law (and many other films he plays a cameo in). Maybe he has been homeless and drunk, but I think he plays at it worst luck - I'm of a generation that doesn't care what he does in his private life although I'd like to think he's okay. He plays a bum spectacularly and has given me so many years of awesome music

Well, well, well -- so the Bulletboys got this song from Tom Waits. I knew it was a departure for them, but never would have imagined it was originally by TW!! That said, I think the Bulletboys took it to another level and I prefer they're "beatnik metal" interpretation to this one. Never was a fan of sax, though, so it's just IMHO. Thanks for posting this!!!
