When you listen to his songs, you realize that there is another such poor fellow and sufferer, who feels life and its cares in the same way. It's out of the rules, it's out of politics, it's out of any crises and wars. What he does is eternal and essential. Tom waits, live happily ever after! Don't stop! Drink your Scotch, smoke your cigarette and just sit in this chair and look into the distance! You are loved! I need you! Without you, this old world will be unbearable..

Back in 2013 I met a girl. A goth and highly extroverted girl who was a Tom Waits fan. At the same month, or probably the same week, The Walking Dead ended one of it's episodes with a character singing this song and I was amazed it was a song of Tom Waits. Imediately I started to hear this song at any time I could to remember the girl I met. She was a singer too and I used to hear this song among her songs. She was a Brazilian girl and lived in the US. She came back here to Brazil to study and I met her months before she had to go back to US. One of my biggest dreams was to meet her again. She never knew but she made me see life on a more happier way. But unfortunately time and distance makes people forget. I forgot her for years and when I finally remembered of her in 2021, I dreamed of her saying she wasn't a part of this world anymore... Then I received the news that she was already gone... RIP Paula Kaiser. You may be gone but I'll make sure I'll never forget you again. I am trully grateful that our paths have crossed and I could have those little but precious memories of you! I still hope to see you again in the afterlife.

One of the greatest stories ever told in song. Guy found the exact right melody for this story, and the exact right voice to sing it in, and then created something incredible. This is the kind of music i learned to play my instruments for. Its the kind of musician i dreamed of being, and still dream of being. I wish i could travel the whole country over and over again playing such songs. I cant imagine what an amazing life it would be ...
