Join us PortugalMUSE (Awen & Dave) in Tomar where we explore Pegões Aqueduct built in 1593 by Italian architect Filippo Terzi. We then explore the beautiful town bursting with history and culture before stopping for lunch at Star Kitchen www.tripadviso.... The Indian curries here are mouth-wateringly tasty, the owner and the staff were lovely and showed us around their restaurant with pride! Very full and satisfied we head to the Castle gardens with giant lilac bougainvillea trees! We then take a short drive up to the castle. The Convent of Christ (Portuguese: Convento de Cristo/Mosteiro de Cristo) is a former Catholic convent in Tomar, Portugal. Originally a 12th-century Templar stronghold, when the order was dissolved in the 14th century the Portuguese branch was turned into the Knights of the Order of Christ, that later supported Portugal's maritime discoveries of the 15th century. The convent and castle complex are a historic and cultural monument and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983.
