Hi Everyone! Just to clarify as some of you might have been confused about whether this time-lapse is for 18 or 52 days duration. This one is actually for 18 days. We also have another time lapse with the 52 days footage of tomato sprouting from a whole fruit, which was previously published on our channel as well as linked to this video. Thank you!

@redrobotmonkey
11 күн бұрын
But that's not how that works. It doesn't make your one tomato plant grow faster if you throw scraps of tomato into the same soil. It doesn't grow faster either if you just throw it in dirt, it depends whats in that dirt. if you are talking about adding to the nutrients of the soil then sure, but that is the nature of adding fertilizer. This video was trying to show the nature of seeds in a fruit added to soil; which if(tomato remains with seeds) added to your existing tomato plants would not help it grow "faster".

A good way to think about is that plants and fungus can have a mutually beneficial relationship! As the fungus breaks down waste, it releases nutrients that are then claimed by roots and plants that are “nitrogen-fixers” (like clover and some trees) provide nitrogen to the fungus

Time lapses. One of my favorite things since I was a little kid. Who here has cut open a tomato only to find many of the seeds already sprouted? It happened to me/my mom for the first time a couple years ago. We were really startled, but it tasted just as good as a regular tomato. Now it seems to happen pretty often. I don't know how we avoided them the previous 20 years. I think it of it is a fun surprise, like an egg with two yolks.

It would be a good illustration to show people that the deeper you burry seeds, the lower your chance they will come up above the ground. Only 3 made it, the rest of the seeds ran out of energy. Without sunlight, they can only rely on the energy inside the seed. Which is why big seeds like beans and peas can be burried deeper in the ground, or under a thicker layer of mulch. While tiny seeds like basil or beebalm have to be sown on the soil itself, just pressed down.
