I first heard of this song during a TV ad for a K-Tel record of 'Oldie Goldies'. I will never forget the line they played during the ad...'Many a tear, has to fall.' Once I heard that line, and that voice I bugged my mom for days until she ordered the album.

The thing to remember about this era (pre Beatles) is that for my generation, it was all about dancing. Dances were what we did. Every ballad was for slow dancing. Fast songs were for fast dancing. We jitterbugged. We did the locomotion, the mashed potatoes, the Bristal stomp, cha cha, stroll, circle dance. Every one of these songs has a memory attached. Bandstand rated songs by dancibility as well as the song itself. I'm really digging what you're doing. Although you'll probably lose me somewhere in the 80s.

Wow, Deb thanks for this comment - much appreciated! And don't worry, I'll lose myself in the 90s or 00s!

One of the great pop songs of all time! He did a slow version in 1951 but this 1958 version is the standard all others copy

Have you listened to the song The Wanderer by Dion? It’s about a guy who changes girlfriends the way he changes his shirts. “I hug ‘em and I squeeze ‘em. They don’t even know my name.”

One of my fave songs and a great singer and a good reaction. Tommy had a rather sad and way too early death-see link below: kzitem.info/news/bejne/r32a03tts6WIjWk

Sir------------as one who grew up in the 50's, & remembers this so well, from the Fall of '58-----------I REALLY hope you're not laughing AT the music -----------I would take real offense .------------------Tommy Edwards died broke, alone, & forgotten, as his manager stole all of his money, "& left him nothing. A terrible sad ending for a good & decent man. ----------------------MJL< 75 y/o
