abztractbeats I would wholly agree he's one of the best. But how can we say there is any ONE "best" guitarist? Personally, I couldn't make a list with just one guy at the top. I'd have to make it a 4-or-5-way tie for first. It's all subjective, for the most part, when it comes to music. The average listener thinks a guy is the best in the world just because they like his music while snubbing their nose at another guitarist who is far superior technically. Think Angus Young vs say, Yngwie. Some folks of questionable understanding of what music is and requires may think Angus is THE best while condemning Malmsteen to the bottom of the pile just because they don't like his musical style. Kinda got off on a tangent there, but you surely catch my drift.

The sweet part is that we have the opportunity to see a true master and listen to phenomenal music.. the bitter part is that 99% of guitar players around the world after watching this will immediately realize that no matter how long or how hard they will try they will never come close to this level.. And that's the sad part that can be apply to any area of life... There are people like Tommy out there that are simply on another level of talent And make most of us, No matter what field we try to pursue, Feel like shit

As he says, the alternating bass thumb and fingers thing is fingerpicking 101. More important, he can TELL you everything he does. . he can SHOW you everything he does. . .but until/unless you put in hundreds of hours of practice, you're not going to be able to do it, and even if you do, you're STILL not going to be another Emmanuel.

those that think hendrix, page ...clapton,...etc. are the best are already limiting what is best about the guitar. The raw expression that a guitar without distortion or anything else is something potentially magnificent, and should never, ever be overlooked. When you play acousticly , it becomes more demanding than ever to bring a song to life. Any real guitar player should know this. It involves a unique technique that every REAL guitar has to explore

There are several genres of guitar. Tommy could not play some of the difficult classical pieces and would not trouble Clapton with the blues, but my point is, it is not a competition. The best guitarist is only the best for that person they touch in some way musically. Playing with distortion is as much an art as without it. It is just as hard to play well with distortion as it is to play without it. A crap player will sound crap with or without distortion. Don't you know that?

I think this is the feeling we all have when we have these "aha" moments. Suddenly that which was like magic or witchcraft in our mind is now explained simply with a technique. *Technique IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING to learning and remembering guitar.* I have learned 100's of songs, forgotten most, but the techniques learned are not forgotten, the technique is like riding a bike, you don't forget it and you can pick right back up and go even after years of not playing.
