thanks for sharing this beautiful show of the greatest guitar player on the planet now
He is the most complete and creative player on acoustic guitar of this era - plays with clear melody, unique solos, chord comping, bass line and percussion - all at once. I saw him in concert this week in Canada (Sept 2022). It was a very similar show and I met him in person before the show. Great Ausy personality, with humour and humility. If you get to chance to see him - do it !

I saw him and his brother Phil (RIP) playing in a touring Country and Western show in the early sixties in a place called Bruce Rock, Western Australia. They were pre-teens and already playing behind their heads, sharing one guitar to play a showpiece, doing harmonic tricks and clowning around. Tommy belted his trusty Telecaster around Australia, backing some of the best artists around, playing whatever genre was required. He wrote to Chet Atkins as a kid and they kept in touch so that when Tommy went to the US they formed a solid friendship and Chet anointed him a Certified Guitar Player. You'll see the CGP on some of his fretboards

I've been listening to Tommy for 50 years since he used to jam at pubs in Sydney with Phil. Tommy is incredibly good at technique and interpretation, but has developed more in his latter years a really annoying habit of seriously disjointing a song by showing off silly stuff. It's really quite pointless and takes away from his brilliant musical flow and destroy truly beautiful songs. He once admitted that his cocaine addiction had "left his brain like Swiss cheese". Maybe that explains it. He used to freely admit that his voice was shit and should not be heard outside of his shower. I wish he had stuck with that resolution.
