Looks like our Coast got off easy for what it could have been. I've seen much larger winter storm waves in Depoe Bay.

I was thinking the same, considering how destructive even a little bigger sea surge can be. I think we're lucky nobody died (to my knowledge) here too, thousands of idiots standing down at the surf line taking pictures. Foreshadows the future I think.

So are these waves bigger than normal or no?

Kind of looks normal for Depoe Bay, but I'm not there everyday.

Unusually large for a windless and calm day, I hadn't seen waves near this big since the bomb cyclone just before winter.

Did that geyser rock spew water extra high?

There wasn't really a geyser just huge waves crashing. That rock is about the size of a 2 story shopping building, for scale reference.

Looks like the Tonga waves are coming in from a different direction than the wind driven ones. Just guessing.

Good guess! These are hitting our part of the coast making for essentially a coast wide single rip current heading north. They are directionally hitting toward the NE, having come from the appx. SW.
