How do we articulate the s sound in french with precision? Where does one place the tip of the tongue? Is it the top or lower teeth? Is this also how we produce the french z? If you could answer these queries that I have posed I would be most grateful. Thank You.

Bonjour ! The difference between /s/ and /z/ is that the vocal cords are vibrating for /z/; otherwise, their point of articulation is the same, depending on the surrounding vowels. If you are pronouncing the consonants in isolation, the mouth is fairly closed, the upper and lower teeth are close together, the tip of the tongue is located near the small opening between the teeth, and the air is flowing with a friction sound through the space behind the upper teeth where the front part of the tongue (just beyond the tip) is located. If a vowel is articulated either before or after the fricative, the tip of the tongue will probably be located behind the lower teeth, but it varies depending on the position of the vowel. Bonne continuation !

Glad I took an intro to Linguistics class. Being able to understand all the vocabulary in this video is really useful, lol
