That approach was the foundation of how/why the persona displayed such genius in creativity, timing and all of the mannerisms Foster used to enhance his delivery. His focus was extraordinary. How he managed to keep a straight face without breaking character while everyone else was losing it is legendary.

I am off subject... but it is the month of May in 2023... I agree with you completely. They were great communicators also. Could get a point across without being crude. I miss it too.

I read a story Years ago that him and a drinking buddy bet each other they could quit drinking or something to that effect when they were in their 20's. His buddy eventually started back but Foster never did. He was absolutely awesome with his routines and so convincing. Loved Him!!

You are All correct! l met Foster in 1998. He was a tall, solid gentleman. l don't know if he ever really drank. His stage personna was as the drunk. But he, like Dean, were sober.

He didn't drink. He was a problem drinker earlier in life and gave it up. His fantastic and spot-on act came from that.

No sir ...I grew up around alkies. They were having fun while everyone around them suffered. The 1920's was a time when America had had enough. It's a sobering thought.
