TONI BASIL SPECIAL full show 1. Thief on the loose 2. Mickey 3. Nobody 4. Little red book 5. Time after time 6. Be stiff 7. Space girls 8. You gotta problem 9 Over my head (extra)
Thank you for posting this . I was one of Toni’s original dancers. I’m in the orange feathers in “My Little Red Book”, and in “You Gotta Problem” I’m the pink poodle in the final tableau & I do most of the jumping in the choreography.

Thank You!!! The singer is great, music is good but not so special (maybe with the exception of "be stiff" from Devo). But I haven't seen such a synthesis of pop and classic dance yet. I think we did not know about this in Europe, it is original and it could be very successful.

Wow!! That is so cool!! I loved watching this!! I’ve adored Toni since I was a little ten yr old girl when Mickey came out. She influenced me a lot. Just recently watched a fabulous documentary about Mickey specifically, so it obviously was about Toni as well, but it was short and not any kind of comprehensive look at her life and career. But it was still fascinating and well done, and made me want to find this work of hers, Word of Mouth. Imagine my surprise and delight to see that the first comment is from you, one of Toni’s dancers who happens to be in this fantastic work! It must’ve been an amazing experience working with Toni and putting Word of Mouth together! How long did you work with her? You’ve probably had so much interesting work in dance, and have many stories to tell. Are you and Toni still in touch with each other?

I remember Debbie Allen another famous coreographer and actress made an album in the end of the 80's and its hard to see how this is so previous considering that in the 80's music changed a lot between the begining and the end of the decade.

BLONDIE AND PINK DID THE SAME THING. THEY USED THE MUSIC STANDARDS AND HIRED THE FINEST MUSICIANS TO "BACK THEM UP"
Great dancer and a dance related career to be proud of, but that song Micky is simply dreadful. People in the eighties thought that shit was cool? I always get the impression that with her it was dance first, music second. Which is cool, I can appreciate dance. But with me, my first love is music, so no, I have higher musical standards. I'll watch her dance with the sound down while listening to something else. To bring that home. In that first video she dances on freakin' point. That is not something that the 1000's of pop stars who also dance do. Brittany Spears is not dancing en pointe in her videos. As far as I know, she may be the only pop singer who did that in her own video. I think I've seen ballerinas as extras in pop music videos, but not the stars themselves. It's interesting, yes, but Mickey, if I never listen to that song again I will do just fine.
@shiroibasketshoes

You act like "Mickey" is all about Toni. It's a cover of Racey's "Kitty," but you wrote nothing about that male band's original version. Toni recorded many other songs, too. You misspelled Britney.
@johnobrien6415

@@shiroibasketshoes Doesn't matter why she wrote it or did it or covered it, it's still a shitty song. Better dancer than singer. That cheesy new wave doesn't age well. If I never hear that song or the original song again I will be just fine with that.
@shiroibasketshoes

@@johnobrien6415 Like many people who dislike some music, you state your mere personal insulting opinion as if it is intrinsic fact. Others have their right to their opinion it is good, just like you have your right to dislike it. "Mickey" was Top Ten in nine countries and #1 in three of those, meaning many people loved it. Since you don't like it, you don't have to listen to it. Have a nice day. :-)

@@shiroibasketshoes You're right, taste is subjective, and if you want to like shitty music, have at it. Disco Duck was a big hit too, and you can't use an Argumentum ad popularum to make me think it was a great song either.
@shiroibasketshoes
Жыл бұрын
@@johnobrien6415 You're contradicting yourself, as you say you agree that taste is subjective, but then you use that profane insult again about a song that many loved and still enjoy. You're also incorrectly assuming that my defending "Mickey" means I personally love it. I bought the album with it but I haven't played it in decades. I think Toni Basil's version of "Mickey" is very well done, but to my personal taste, I've heard and enjoyed Rick Dees and His Cast Of Idiots' "Disco Duck" many more times. I bought the 45, LP and other LPs of Rick. I kept track of how many times I heard "Disco Duck" on the radio, and when I heard it the 100th time, my parents got for me a cake with a "Disco Duck" theme. Yet just because you apparently think "Disco Duck" is the lowest of the low, as you incorrectly assume of course I'd agree, you tried to use that for an example of your point, but it was a #1 song in its time. You misdefined "argumentum ad popularum." I never tried to use that on you. I never said you had to have my own musical taste. You are trying to use that term on myself and others, by acting like only you and those who agree with you know what good music is. Tactics like that are one of the reasons the term "pot calling the kettle black" was invented.
