"Sing, You Sinners" was recorded by Tony Bennett with Percy Faith and his orchestra at “The Church”, Columbia’s 30th St Studios, NYC, on Dec 16,1955. It was released on a 6-track 10” LP: “Alone at Last” in late December 1955. It was released as a single in January 1956 on 10” 78 RPM shellac & 7” 45 RPM vinyl. About the mono recording:
The mono track is from the 1997 Columbia CD: “Tony Bennett’s - All-Time Greatest Hits”. It was perfectly mastered and expertly transferred to digital. I didn’t have to make any alterations to make it sound great in STEREO!
About my DES STEREO mix:
For Tony’s Vocal, I kept him centered, removed the original overabundant spring reverb and replaced it with a nice crisp stereo reverb to give continuity to the stereo image. For the Brass, I panned them Left, reverbing into the Right. For the Reeds & Strings, I panned them Right, reverbing into the Left. For the Drums, I panned them Right, reverbing into the Left. For the Bass, I kept it centered with no further adjustments.
Technical Information:
I used DeMIX PRO v5.1.0 to isolate Tony’s Vocal, Brass, Reeds, Rhythm Guitar, Drums and Bass into 6 separate tracks. I used SpectraLayers PRO-7 to manually isolate the Reeds and the Bass and for stem cleanup. Adobe Audition was used for Dynamic Range recovery, EQ, Delay, Reverb and final mixdown. NERO 2019 Platinum used to generate the final video.
